....lol.. this dude, is a smart bandit. Took his name and overblown stats elsewhere. Scored a big check, before he's found out.

Losing Byron is massive. I said two years ago that he needed to be resigned. I think he should have been payed before Jaylon for sure.

I understand that Chido, Lewis and Brown all have massive experience. It’s just that they all have been terribly inconsistent.

I wish B. Jones nothing but the best, it's a shame that former regime didn't allow him to be great starting at corner from day 1. I screamed for him to be a corner the entire time SMFH.

Reading comments like this just shows me that CB in the first round isn't a surefire thing.

Truly believe the front office thinks Lewis, Awuzie and Brown is a solid group going forward and gives us flexibility to pick BPA in first

Byron Jones: Dallas' lack of interest had to do with CBs on roster, not money - ProFootballTalk

It became obvious long ago that the Cowboys wouldn't be able to keep Byron Jones. With Amari Cooper and Dak Prescott also having their contracts expire after the 2019 season, Dallas had to set its priorities. The priority wasn't Jones.

<snip>

But in a conference call with Dolphins writers Thursday, the cornerback said he thinks the Cowboys’ lack of interest in re-signing him had more to do with the other players the team has at the position than the money they don’t have.

“I don’t think so,” Jones said when asked if Cooper and Prescott’s returns was the reason he didn’t. “One thing that the Dallas Cowboys do a really good job at is drafting good, young players, and they have a whole bunch of good corners on that team – no question about that – and those guys will be just fine without me. But they believe strongly in the way they draft, and they’ve shown over the years they draft some freaking ballers no matter [if it is the] first round, seventh round, guys in between. They draft and develop really good players, so I don’t think the Dak and Amari’s situation had any effect on me. I think it’s their confidence in the people that they have on the roster now and who they’re going to get in the draft hopefully.”

Ahhh..

Right Byron..

I think the draft has 2-3 better CBs than you at 10 percent that you want.

Enjoy your monies.

Toodles.

I wish we could have kept him.

My gut tells me he surpasses his career INT total his first year in Miami

Yes, it's why we knew we wouldn't keep him. Dallas is seeing CB as a position where it can not spend big because of what it has ... and that's even before re-signing Brown. I believe the team sees Lewis and Awuzie as its starters, and I'm not sure that's a good plan without a better backup plan than Brown and Canady.

Improve the nickel defense and add future starters.

Ha Ha and Xavier Woods at safety...safety depth?

Getting both Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper were a very large part of the Dallas free agency...and the Cowboys will walk off with both by Training Camp!

  1. The Dallas Cowboys have a few notable needs after free agency—including cornerback, defensive end and tight end, where Byron Jones, Robert Quinn and Jason Witten departed, respectively.

Replacing Jones is the biggest priority. He was a Pro Bowler in 2018 and the team's best cover man, and the Cowboys have done little to fill his role. They did re-sign Anthony Brown, but he isn't likely to simply pick up where Jones left off.

Dallas hasn't exactly replaced Quinn or Witten either. However, they aren't entering their primes—they'll be 30 and 38 respectively this coming season—as the 27-year-old Jones appears to be. Witten is nearing the end of his career, and Dallas did bring in defensive tackle Gerald McCoy to help bolster the front.

The Cowboys will likely need to replace Jones in next month's draft.
