Guys I have found myself with a lot more time on my hands, and haven't watched a ton of college football over the last 2 years. I use to divulge hours and hours of my day couch scouting and I am looking to get back into it.

Can you guys give me names of players to scout I will give you guy my quick overview of the player, you can call me an idiot, or maybe find some of it informative but I need some names of guys you or the Cowboys might have interest in.

Please none of the 1st round type guys, but 1-2 graded players are fine and beyond.

Thank you.

Cool idea, since I'm too lazy lol.

Malik Harrison
Van Jefferson
Tony Pride
Shyheim Carter
Kenny Robinson
Larrel Murchison

All players I like, for where they might be drafted, but admittedly haven't watched a ton of.

Jaylon Johnson
Good athlete but not great, what he is great at is the technique and his football IQ is through the roof. I think with his traits and ability he is your ideal zone CB/ slot type of guy.
He has great football awareness and makes plays on the ball and is a good tackler where. Scheme strength will be in zone keeping everything in front of him or out of nickel although that limits his ability to be a playmaker.
He will be a scheme dependent type of player where if he is asked to play man on shifty speed wr's he might have some issues to follow them up the field. because of his slow backpedal and not the greatest at transitioning into running down the field.

Mid 2nd-3rd RD Draft Grade

Zack Braun
This one is easy he is a Kyle Van Noy clone, can play either Sam or Will in a 4-3 and can get after the passer but like Van Noy needs to work on pass rush moves. He might develop into a pass-rushing OLB or 4-3 DE but I don't think he is ready to be moved into that position yet.
2nd Rd pick based on current strengths, but if you feel you can develop him into a pass-rusher late 1st

Jeff Gladney
Like the tape guy can play inside and outside play with physicality for his size and good athlete. Has good ball skills and good burst to jump routes and can is a playmaker.
He needs to work on discipline because he gets caught with his eyes in the back field and it leads to him getting beat on double moves. Also at his size he might have a tough time with bigger WR's.
Late 1st early 2nd

Van Jefferson
Good shifty route runner who can create space on quick timing routes inside and outside where he would be an ideal fit for a slot WR.
He is a bit limited on what he can do for you he is not going to break much for you in big plays on deep routes or YAC, is a bit like Beasley he will nickel and dime you but not much more than that.
Draft range will be scheme dependent 4th or 5th rd range.

Benito Jones
I am not going to even do a whole write-up on him. Not a fan, doesn't have any pass rush moves, looks to bull rush every play, doesn't seem to hold the point of attack, plays too upright, gets pushed around, and seems to play very uninspired sometimes.

Alex Highsmith
Talk about polar opposites in players from Benito to Alex. Really good burst, can really bend the corner and his acceleration to the ball is very impressive. He has a lot of bend to him and he has quite a few pass rushing moves pairing them with nimble footwork allows him to get the OT off balance and has the ability to go inside or outside. Impressive tape, and has the ability to be a quality pass rusher the question is if he can add weight and be as nimble to be a 4-3 DE or if he will be only a scheme fit for 4-3.
I think one of the few knocks on him is going to be size and strength and he will be only a pass rush specialist in a 4-3 or if he will be scheme limited to a 3-4 OLB. The other knock/ question is if he can get it done down in and down out vs elite competition.
Mid 2nd to 3rd rd grade

Marlon Davidson
This is a tough one because you see his ability to play on the edge but is not a 4-3 DE, and isn't quite long enough to be a 3-4 DE either. He is athletic for his size and interior 3-tech is where you could see him fit but he doesn't really do the things you ask of a 3-tech. He doesn't seem to have a true position because he doesn't really play with his hands extended, doesn't seem to hold the point of attack, and might have a hard time shedding and finding gaps to penetrate inside. Will probably take some time to develop him to a 3-tech although the size and athleticism teams might have interest in.
Late day 2 or early day 3 guy.

Late day 2 or early day 3 guy.

As a Baun guy I think he’s a much better prospect than Van Noy. Faster, better first step and more bend and I don’t think you’re giving him enough credit for his pass rush moves.

I have no idea what to do with Weaver.

His tape is solid. He has a good get off, bend, exceptional hands and wins in a variety of ways as a pass rusher.

I thought a mediocre combine would drop him to the 2nd but he had a 7 second 3 cone which is solid.

I worry about his run defense, but wouldn’t be surprised if he goes end of 1st.

Of course when I think I got time on my hands work picks back up again.

Malik Harrison
Good athlete, nice build, seems to play his gaps properly most of the time, and can be a sideline to sideline player. To me he seems like he would only be a Mike LB.
What I didn't like is that he seems to get washed out of the play and gets caught up in traffic and one thing that worries me is for his size against college competition I see too many arm tackles and not enough thump and that won't work in the NFL.
3rd RD Grade but he will be scheme and position-dependent.

1000% agree.

Thoughts on Utah safety Terrell Burgess?

You really want to impress me and give me a breakdown of former West Virginia (2017 and 2018 film) and St. Louis (XFL) Battlehawk safety Kenny Robinson.

Good stuff.

Not a big fan, doesn't seem to have the speed desired for his smaller build, and he doesn't have a true role in the NFL. He is a liability in man has tight hips to play nickel, gets lost in zone, can't play in run support, and where he should shine in the back half he lacks eye discipline and burst.
Late RD/ undrafted.

He has a lot to like great athlete to go along with great size, you can definitely see the skills to make plays on the ball are there and can absolutely blow someone up when in position to do so.
The negatives for me are he his a bit slow to diagnose plays, takes awful angles which lead to a bunch of missed arm tackles, not good as an open-field tackler, and his eye discipline to read plays as a deep safety tend for plays to go over his head.
He has a ton of potential, but he has a lot of things that need to be fixed.
I am not sure how to grade him based on him not playing NCAA football last year and being in the XFL.

Quick get off, and short area quickness to run stunts and inside-outside moves. He is able to be a disrupter on running plays and has a quick punch off the snap.
Outside of his quick burst he doesn't really have closing speed to get to plays that are going away from him, and although his punch is quick it doesn't seem to pack a jolt to the opposition so he would need to add more strength to that part of his game. With him being smaller stature and shorter arms he is a 3-tech but he needs to add more strength and develop more pass-rushing moves.
Limited scheme fit and developmental guy late 3rd rd.

One of the better tapes I've seen so far. For a guy that is 6'4 300lb's he has position flex between a 1 and 3 tech and maybe team would have interest as 3-4 DE although the arms are a bit short. He is very strong and able to shock players with his bunch while also having twitchiness mixed with pass rush moves to get into the backfield. He has a nice swim move, spin move, and for a guy his size is able to get skinny to split gaps. A lot to like with this guy, and could be a really good DT in a 4-3 scheme.
What he needs work on is his get off, seems to consistently be late off the snap and at times is plays a little too high although he is more times than not able to combat that by how strong he is.
Late 1st- 2nd RD player.

Really like this guy he isn't going be the athletic 3 tech, but a strong 1 tech that will be able to rush the pocket and create plays for others. Has pretty good lateral movement for a guy his size and will be you anchor for years to come.
Not much I don't like, the guy is probably not going to give you many sacks maybe 3 or so per year, but he is what we've been wanting from a 1-tech for years which is nothing splashy just someone who gets the job done.
Late 2nd-3rd rd pick.

Not a big fan watched the tape has a pretty good get off vs bad competition with no real pass rush moves and he is able to win that way, and not sure how he will hold up against the run. I think he would be average at best DE in a power 5 conference.
I grade him as a 3rd-4th RD pick.
