Any time you see a quote-within-a-quote, it's because someone deleted a [ /QUOTE ] tag, misspelled it or deleted characters in it.

The system will auto-complete missing quote tags which is why it shows as a quote-within-a-quote.
Ok, that is why I posted what i did so that he knew to start after the end quote tag, looked like he didnt have a lot of posts.

What about the dude who played for the Dallas Ding Dongs XFL team...think he was 9/9 with some very difficult/longish kicks...some in very windy conditions.

When the guarantees come out..we will know if there is a legit competition or not.

if the guarantees are less than 2 million and Kai clearly beats him...it’s Kai’s job.

Guaranteed money on contracts.

Zeurlein…………...2.25 million

Kai...……………...137 K

LMAO...……..there wont be no kicking competition.

With a kicker I think you just ride the hot hand. They're too erratic to put much stock in a body of work over years. If the guy you got now is doing the job then keep him.

This could very well cost us the Super Bowl this year.

I think that's what you find out in camp. Forbath's history is up and down. Zeurlein had a period of sustained success before a bad year last year. See who's kicking better in camp and go with him.

Obviously, Dallas expects zeurlein to be better and win the spot but if he's not they've still got forbath.

Thus is much better than Maher just being handed the job last year.

Every team keeps doing it for a reason. Even the Patriots.

I think his percentage would go down if he attempted as many kicks per season as other kickers. He averages fewer than 20 attempts per season while most of the top kickers average around 30 attempts per season. His "accuracy rate" is an illusion in my opinion. I wish him success if he is the Cowboys kicker, but I don't trust him. Don't trust Zuerlein, either. Very few kickers are trustworthy over an extended period of time.
It is harder to be consistent with less kicks. You ever heard of a kicker getting in a groove? It’s hard to get in a groove when you are not getting very many kicks.

You really think Forbath is going to stick around for a “kicking competition” when they gave Zuerlien a huge bonus and him very little.

Dallas also expected Mayer to be a competent kicker. How did that work out. Most fans thought he should have been released after his mediocre 2018 season. In this case the fans were smarter than the front office.

And here I was all worried about the defense. Now that we've signed another kicker, I feel all kinds of better.

If I remember correctly wasn't Zeurlein fighting injuries last year and late 2018?

I remember hearing about a pulled groin and quad injuries. It was talked a lot about locally since we get a lot of bay area sports news where I live.

Also, the statistics mentioned earlier between Forbath and Zuerlein are slightly misleading given the overall attempts by both over the course of their careers.

Zuerlein has just under 100 more attempts in his carwer than Forbath does.

I'm just happy that we finally brought in actual kicking competition and may the best kicker win!

It's about time that we took this phase of the game seriously again.

  • Special teams was a problem in 2019 and cost us games
  • We have one of the very best special teams coaches in the league
  • Fassel has been his special teams coach for his entire career.
  • If there is anyone on the planet who knows the guy it’s Fassel
  • Zuerlein was 1st team All-Pro in 2017
We all wanted major changes on special teams.

This is right in line with those plans.

If people want to nitpick and play armchair accountant over a relatively inconsequential amount of money then they are certainly entitled to their opinion

Me? I’m going to trust the coaching staff.

He was terrible from 40-49 yards last season, missing 6 of 11 attempts.

Hopefully, that was an aberration.
Even accounting for last year, he’s 46-60 from that range. He had a couple of injuries last year which may have been a factor.

Fassel has been his coach for the last eight years so I th ink it’s a safe bet that he knows what’s up

now i want to get that kid from

Rodrigo Blankenship, K, Georgia
Height: 6-1. Weight: 191.
Projected Round (2020): 4-6.
3/28/20: The Georgia "Hot Rod" was on a streak of perfection before a miss in overtime cost Georgia a loss to South Carolina. He hit a long of 50 yards in 2019 and was 27-for-33 - 82 percent. He had three misses in the 40-yard range, going 8-of-11, and two in the 50-yard range, going 3-of-5. Blankenship is the favorite to be the first kicker taken in the 2020 NFL Draft.

6/22/19: In 2018, Blankenship was 19-of-23 on his field goals with a long of 53. He was excellent in 2017, connecting on 87 percent of his field goals. That season Blankenship had a long of 55 yards and was 2-for-2 in the 50+ range. He was 4-of-7 in the 40-yard range.

Just thinking most are missing the point with this signing,, GZ came at a decent price, and kickers around the league seem to be leveling out talent wise.
Despite how people want to feel about the position, its still a position of leverage, albeit slight, but every positive move is a good move IMO.
Teams scramble every year trying to shore up special teams voids,, maybe we get a late draft pick for Forbath if he ends up losing the battle,,
Competition is a good thing for any position on any level on a roster.
Now lets go grab another back seat FA,, being overlooked and under valued...
Alec Ogletree ILB NY Giants FA.
Nice size at 6'2" and 242lbs, still just 28, and is one of the best rated ILBs vs TEs in the league.
Why is he still available?

At least we know the Cowboys are serious about a placekicker. That's a good thing.
Wonder if it's going to be competition and keep the winner or if they're going to keep 'em both? Hmm.

Except it isn't. It isn't the same as playing 16 games per season over 5 straight seasons. It isn't maintaining accuracy late into a long season. His numbers are not legit. If they were then teams would hang on to him. Bill Belichick who knows the value of an accurate kicker wouldn't have cut him after one game.

The article in the link below has a long list of top NFL kickers. It was from last April. I don't see Forbath mentioned. Even if they included 2019 I doubt he would make that list. If he wins the job and does well, great. I won't complain. I also won't be surprised if he doesn't perform up to a high level.

Bro, no hard feelings, but the "article" you linked is a blog post from a blogger whose site makes the user interface of Craigslist look like it was designed by Steve Jobs.

The opinion of a blogger writing from his mom's basement is hardly an authoritative source. How about we consult the official record books?

I already stated how I felt about that. He has been with 6 teams in 8 seasons. If those numbers are the be all end all he wouldn't need to find a new job every season.
