Ding ding ding!!!!!!

If the Cowboys don't feel a player like Devin Smith, Jon'Vea Johnson, Cedrick Wilson or Noah Brown can replace Cobb then look at available FA WR's or get one in the draft. There will be good ones well into the 3rd round. No need to burn the 17th pick on one.
I don't follow college football much. But I saw an evaluation of upcoming wr's in this draft. Cee Dee lamb was nothing short of awesome. Not likely he'll be available at 17, but if he is, we can't pass on him.

You take the best athlete, period! Especially if he is a game changer.
Having said thus, I don't think wide receiver is off the table for pick 17.
If we sign Dak to a record contract, the Joneses are saying they're all-in on Dak. And that means we'll look to strengthen the offense.
Second, can you imagine teams having to defend Jeudy/Ruggs/Lamb AND Zeke, Gallup, Cooper AND Jarwin AND Dak, if he learns how to use his legs better? :omg:
I think Ruggs would be the better immediate fit. And, no, he's not like Austin or Ginn. Ruggs is tougher and has tremendous hands. Jeudy is the better route runner and Lamb is more physical. Ruggs would likely be able to contribute the fastest - pardon the pun.

I know we need defense, but I just don't see a defensive player outside, maybe, Derrick Brown, Isaiah Simmons and Chase Young having an immediate impact like Ruggs and, maybe, Jeudy and Lamb, would.

That's my three cents.

Bingo

who, Ruggs and Lamb? I am well aware that they are great, along with Jeudy. But Dallas doesn't need that type of WR, especially at the 17th pick when they have MASSIVE needs on defense. If you are going to draft a WR, do it with your 3rd rounder. Deep talent pool at WR this year, much like last year, and quality names will be around.
I didn’t say I would draft them at 17, I said I think the Cowboys probably will if they are there. I addressed the fact that there are bigger needs on defense, but they might not feel that way.

They are not going to draft a slot, undersized receiver in the 1st rd.
Many people would disagree with you, adding a guy like Ruggs will force teams to keep their safeties back & that opens up the field for Zeke to run wild and it makes it harder to double team Cooper & cheat inside or down.

Over 40 yards the difference between between 4.3 and 4.4 speed is inches. It's not nearly as important being smart, quick, agile and have good hands.
I'm not all that worried about our #3 receiver. We have Smith, Wilson and probably a second or third day pick that can probably give us enough out of the slot. We don't need Dak throwing for 5000 yards.

Agree to disagree. What we do know is for year's this scouting department has used the same prototype for the position, they like receivers with size.

As you know NFL always adjust, and that will be the case for this offense if they don’t add another deep threat to the unit.

I believe this draft is the perfect place to pickup a speedy WR that can play the slot and go out the deep to take the safeties away from Amari and & Zeke ( similar role Ted Ginn played for Panthers and Saints)

Either you get a top tier drop down to 17 or picking up one up in the mid rounds the personnel is going to be there to get scooped up!

It will also make your franchise QB very happy and not mid OTAs or training camp.

I don't think anyone cares about "making our QB happy" right now LMAO.

Why would Dallas bother drafting a WR that high when they already have Cooper and Gallup?

Unless you NEED a #1 WR type, this is not the draft to be taking one high. plenty of good talent in the pool.

C'mon, in the first round, you go for the top player on your board. It just goes that this draft is intensely loaded with receiver talent. Getting the top available goes without saying. This team still needs to secure the cap with long contract 'rooks.' And adding such quality to an offense that is easily top 5, should be a no brainer to this fan at least.

I would say that was the blueprint for the last 2 decades for the entire NFL; pre-Tyreek Hill. This is a copy cat league & every team would love to have that guy on their team. Ruggs is that guy.

Is Hill even considered a top 10 receiver in this league? The likes of Hopkins, Michael Thomas are the elite receivers currently in this league.

This is good idea, and the cowboys offense would improve with a tyrek hill type guy, but I dont see that happening.
Jones boys think Amari is the only wr they need, with the other guys they have.
They might take a wr, but nothing special.
Although MM might get them to do some unexpected things in the draft.

Jalen Reagor, 2nd round. Lightning in a bottle, and would also take care of our return duties for the first time in a long time.

Blazing speed is an asset, but it's not above things like making good reads, running precise routes, making sharp cuts, setting up defenders and good hands. Obviously some degree of speed is required with those things as well, but blazing speed is not.

BPA is a good strat for a rebuilding team, but this isn't a rebuilding team. This is a stacked offense already with GIANT HUGE ENORMOUS GAPING holes on defense.

Why? Speed is great but if he cannot catch a cold, or run any other routes he is useless. Defenses will shut that down.
Someone also posted they are upset about losing Witten? He’s done , he just refuses to admit that Father Time has stuck the fork in him. He needs to retire and chill. Start coaching. Witten was the best TE in football in my opinion in his prime.
Cobb is no big loss either. His best years are behind him to. GB receivers never be any good when they leave GB
