Do DT Signings Indicate Cowboys are Done With Trysten Hill?

...A year ago that prediction was based on the idea that Trysten Hill, after a year of grooming, would be able to step into a larger role. That’s what you typically expect from second and even third-round picks in most cases.

But it was a rough rookie season for Hill, not getting much playing time early and also being disciplined by then-coach Jason Garrett for tardiness and sleeping at team meetings. However, his performance did seem to be on an upswing by the end of the year.

Clearly it wasn’t enough for the Cowboys to trust him in 2020, though. They added Gerald McCoy on a three-year deal to play the same spot on the line, the “3-tech” DT role, where Hill is most suited. The fact that it’s a three-year contract is especially damning. It’d be one thing if it was just a single-year deal; a chance for Trysten to keep being groomed and learning from one of the best in the business. But McCoy’s three years will run through the end of Hill’s rookie contract with Dallas...

What do you mean by “done”?

Think that he currently is a dominant player coming through the ranks?...and address your question to the article's author.

The switch to more of a two-gap scheme and new coaching staff only increase his already steep learning curve, maturity issues aside. He'll be in an uphill battle for a roster spot this preseason, for sure.

...But the biggest disappointment came with the team’s first selection of the year: DT Trysten Hill, from UCF.

Hill’s name was called in the second round (in case you forgot, remember the Cowboys had traded away their first-round pick for Amari Cooper) to the surprise of many. This was perceived by most as a Rod Marinelli pick and after watching Taco Charlton fail in Dallas, fans weren’t very happy.

Even still, Trysten Hill was expected to be a contributor. Instead, he played in only 11% of the defensive snaps and was a healthy scratch most of the season. In the NFL, it’s always difficult to tag a player as a “bust.” Right now, fans and analysts are leaning that way, but it might be too early in his career to do it...

The DT signings indicate that Hill didn’t do crap last season and that his days could be numbered. He didn’t even show he had any potential. He wasn’t even good enough to suit up for games. To say he was a disappointment would be an understatement. His rookie season was a complete flop!

The Cowboys have to proceed as if Hill is not even on the roster because Hill hasn't shown anything. Simply gifting players automatic roster spots when they clearly are inferior to others at their position is poor team building.
yup those roster spots are valuable. Hill better wake the heck up.
