What can we expect from this Cowboys team the next 3 years?

There is no question this team is built around the QB/RB/WR who are 27/25/25 coming into this year. They should all be into their primes for the next 3 years — what can we expect?

Zeke's prime was his rookie season, and it's been a gradual slide since. I don't expect him to ever be that player again. Frederick not coming back to form, and not coming back at all, is another nail in the coffin of Zeke's prime.

Expecting Frederick back at full strength had me expecting a dominant oline. Close to 2016. Still should be good, but not so dominant anymore.

I’m so scarred by Jason Garrett’s consistent inexcusable mistakes that caused this team could never get out of its own way. Basic decisions such as time management, critical situation calls, and special teams have plagued our seasons.

I believe our range of results is wide depending on McCarthy, health, and roster additions from the draft. I’m an optimist at heart, but it’s hard to get away from thinking more 8-8 or 9-7, fringe playoff seasons, maybe one special 12-4/13-3 season with a disappointing playoff loss.

If we are a Super Bowl contender, it will be because of McCarthy’s superiority over Garrett.

While the changing of HC and hiring of McCarthy looks promising on paper;
- we have to see what his coaching presence, management skills and changes best brings to the team.
- we'll have to see if this defense improves enough to finally becomes championship caliber- its' been the weak link for some time.
- we'll have to see if management can provide these coaches the proper personnel pieces to build a championship caliber via FA, trade and the draft.

- we need our big stars, our big studs playing at a top level on a longevity basis and at our most critical stretch and key games; and that's on
both sides of the ball; as well as special teams solidity. i have my best case scenarios with Dak, Zeke, and the OL unit; i still have my skeptics about Cooper
long term but it will play out in next 2 years.

- i haven't got a notion to how McCarthy will want to mix Kellen's ideology into his own system of operating. kellen will call the plays, the X's and O's fo McCarthy's offense ? .. But how much of Kellen's input and design will still be suggested and implemented into the offense - and how much McCarthy will want to be the lead, and how large or small a portion will Kellen be allowed to call the shots ?

DEFENSE- we have Dlaw and LVE to built around , and there's a big question about LVE' health and longivity.
We have to get Dlaw back to that 14 sack guy, after a post-surgery year, that's my biggest hope. Time will tell if he can be counted on in playoff crunch time.
- Sorry but i admit that i'm just not the biggest jaylon fan. i think he's overrated in his lack of top instincts, he's too much of a str8 line forward guy and he's lost too much to the surgical repaired knee. You have to scheme for him and protect him to get best production out of him, imo.

- We have nothing at secondary. No pro bowlers, and one of more average units in entire NFL. When will finally start having key secondary guys
we can build around ?

- Thus far Cowboy have added stop gaps at DT, nuthin additional at DE, and it's clear management wants to rely on draft, coaches
and a money ball FA approach to best push defense to a SB run.

With dak having to play without fredrik and a good slot wr i expect the offense to struggle.

6-10 this year.
4-12
then maybe a 10-6 (if we draft a new qb)

Too much spent on the QB so I don’t expect much unless the CBA goes way up.

A better run team with accountability for a start. Better schemes, more wins, and more post season success.

I am as negative as any on this Forum. That said this team is primed to win now. With McCarthy and a real staff I expect them to contend for a title. 3 straight playoff appearances. At least 2 deep runs.

If not now it will never happen while Jerry is alive.

McCarthy is the biggest hope for 2020 , a coach who can study the opposition and plan for a game. He has the respect of the FO and players due to his super bowl win and record. i am hoping the QB play and holes in the defensive line/linebacker hampers his plans.
Yup. Easy and mediocracy left with Garrett

We've got a lot on offense that could have gotten us more wins last year. Whether that was Moore or Garrett, I assume that McCarthy will get it under control.

Defense has lots of issues. The free agent signings look good on paper, but lots of free agents turn out to be duds. There are also legit doubts about the health of both Jaylon and LVE. Huge improvement if they are both healthy this year.

Note: Jaylon looked unhealthy to me all year, and worse as the season went on. YMMV.

Well you asked.......no SB and no playoff wins. Same old same old. Same ringmaster runs the circus an that's all it is to him - a really big show with lots of ego attention and a huge income from the BRAND. Wins?? PFFFFTT>>>

A downward spiral evolves causing a collective yearning for the good old days of mediocrity. The even more fun times continue with the zero accountability train from the top and the Prescott gravy train crashes and burns in historic fashion.
What a brand.

I think we are contending for our sixth within a couple of years. If we draft well and build our defense up. Barring injury I’m not too worried about what the offense does to get us in the hunt. It’s the lack of takeaways, run defense and breaking more than bending that has been our kryptonite.

To be completely honest, I have nothing in the way of expectations -- only hope for a better run organization and coaching that develops players with pride, accountability and a work ethic to support their development. Hopefully, Mike McCarthy and his staff will find a way to create an improved atmosphere and approach within the Cowboys' organization that is conducive to those goals.

The next three years should present a fresh opportunity for the Cowboys team to re-establish the brand of football that they had enjoyed in the distant past. I'm hoping that the entire organization and its team will make the most of the golden opportunity that lies ahead. Here's also hoping Jerry Jones steps back and allows Coach McCarthy to do his job without interference.

Very well written summary under the premise of hope and not actual expectations.
What is hoped for as you stated here could be collectively agreed upon as a fan base and yet what is expected will be an entirely different story from my viewpoint.

Or, I take that back, what is expected will not be different at all from what has always been the finished product.

Essentially, a 3 year proving ground in my eyes where incremental steps of "obvious" Jerry non involvement needs to take place.

If not, history will continue to repeat itself as it has for the last quarter century.

I fully expect better results than Garrett had. Like you I expect to see better schemes and better football intelligence all the way around. Run defense should be a lot better, special teams will be a lot better, attitude and discipline a lot better. I think the Cowboys will be a lot more competitive in every aspect of the game and more fun to watch. I expect to see playoffs all 1st 3 years. Above and beyond that, we'll see. If we can get a couple good drafts, that'll help. But I think we're going to make life miserable for the NFC east.
