Dt still hasnt really been upgraded. Might be a tiny bit better but they're both just fill players
Tiny bit is a strech. They kept woods who was there best DT last year and then replaced Collins (injury prone and garbage against the run) and Convington (career backup) with McCoy and Poe. That's a pretty significant upgrade

Long term they would of been better off with some of those affordable younger guys like Shelby Harris, Danny Shelton, Quinton Jefferson, Andrew Billings

His draft pedigree will get him more chances this year, but if he doesn't improve on them, he's done. Same deal as Taco.

Are you sure about Tank learning from D WARE?
Yeah - I read that D Ware came back to Dallas and worked out with him in training camp. There was even (wishful thinking) that he'd come back and play. D Ware even teased on Twitter like was coming to play, but of course never did.

But yeah, I'm sure about D Ware teaching Tank and other current players.

I dont see it as a big upgrade and by the time Dallas is ready to contend those 2 dt sports will need to be filled again along with safety. They need to be drafting for these positions also de and lb.

Not to be too harsh on Jess here but this is just dumb and I'm not sure why anyone would post it here.

The Cowboys signing guys on their last contracts to be here 1 or 2 seasons has zero to do with a 22 year old kid.
If anything their willingness to sign cheaper old vets as opposed to prime guys indicate they like Hill's potential.
Most likely it says exactly nothing about Hill good or bad but it certainly says nothing bad.

They signed a 32 year old to start at 3T.
They let the starting 3T who was much younger walk.

They currently have TWO 3T on the roster.
Hill is currently set for a much larger role in year 2.

He would be one very big stand up OLB and quite the anomaly.. although he does have time, that equates to a roster spot... Jelks seems to fit that role on the edge in what your referring to I believe.
Just as far as body type to play that role, right now.

I’m saying he will be a 3 tech on passing downs, I’m not suggesting he move to OLB.

Do DT Signings Indicate Cowboys are Done With Trysten Hill?

...A year ago that prediction was based on the idea that Trysten Hill, after a year of grooming, would be able to step into a larger role. That’s what you typically expect from second and even third-round picks in most cases.

But it was a rough rookie season for Hill, not getting much playing time early and also being disciplined by then-coach Jason Garrett for tardiness and sleeping at team meetings. However, his performance did seem to be on an upswing by the end of the year.

Clearly it wasn’t enough for the Cowboys to trust him in 2020, though. They added Gerald McCoy on a three-year deal to play the same spot on the line, the “3-tech” DT role, where Hill is most suited. The fact that it’s a three-year contract is especially damning. It’d be one thing if it was just a single-year deal; a chance for Trysten to keep being groomed and learning from one of the best in the business. But McCoy’s three years will run through the end of Hill’s rookie contract with Dallas...
You have to give a draft pick at least 3 years. Maybe McCoy and Poe will whip his *** in shape.

I don't think so. As of now he's 2nd on the depth chart for 3 tech.

We want guys to earn starting roles or playing time, and now's here's Hills chance to sink or swim.

Hill has the size and athletics to play in any 4-3 or 3-4 role. It's the mental aspect that is a question with him.
If he shuts down cause the Cowboys signed two DT's, then he wasn't cut out for the NFL anyways.

It all depends on what happens with Crawford. If they get a legit RE then Crawford is your backup 3T. If not then Crawford plays RE on run downs

No they're just an ok plug for a year or 2. Dallas still needs 1-2 dts and 1 de.
this is true, but it indicates the fo has finally accepted the need for good dt's after 25 years of ignoring the position.

One of the concerns here, and rightfully so, is that the departed Rod Marinelli had a hand in drafting both Charlton and Hill. If he couldn’t even get it right with the 28th pick in 2017, how much more room for error was there 30 picks later?

https://insidethestar.com/do-dt-signings-indicate-cowboys-are-done-with-trysten-hill/

I'd love to see Marinelli convince the Raiders to trade for him. At this point, I bet they'd take a 4 for him and be elated. On the other side, maybe Rod is a pain in the butt and the kid just didn't respond to his motivational methods. We'll see. Obviously it would be great to see the kid succeed, but there's been no evidence to believe that will happen to this point.

Yeah I wouldn't read to much into that. McCoy is 32. Probably has a good year or two left in him.
I read nothing into it.

The kid was immature and I am hoping he grows up real fast. I do think he has talent and can be a player if he puts his mind to it.

It's all on him at this point and I am rooting hard for the kid. For some odd reason I really like him. I believe he needs some leadership in life that maybe he hasn't received to this point.

quick on the draw maybe a bit.. what did the Big Tuna always say?
Hold off on the anointing oil.

But the truth is after 25 years of futility most fans have something they don't like about this team. Whether it is the dad and son way of running things or a player acquisition or a players contract. Most have something they don't like about this team. Some are still mad about the firing of Tom Landry. Some are still mad from the whole Jimmy Johnson situation. For me right now it's the drafting of both Conner Williams and Trysten Hill. I'd didn't and don't like either of those guys, because I saw them as backups the moment they were drafted. Second round backups. And that's why there is so much bickering among us fans because most have something that they don't like about this team.

You are not suppose to draft backups in the second round. IMO.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Not saying he won't or will succeed but some of the reports coming out about him trouble me. He doesn't seem motivated or care at this point. I can live with his poor production last year but poor production and poor attitude?

Dallas still needs players to be able to rotate into the game. Hill will get the chance to earn a spot it really falls to him. Many heading into the draft felt he had the physical ability but it was motivation that was question.
