Does Taking Jordan Love At 17 Make Sense If No Dak Deal Is Made By Draft Day

Technically he’s not a cowboy until he signs it. Seems unprecedented for a QB to skip a season, but it’s only unprecedented until it happens. Before Le’Veon no one believed a franchise player would ever do that. It’s only a matter of time before another does
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't he sit until he signs it even if it stretches multiple seasons?

IMO, biggest chance to be a flop in this draft are 3 dudes. Herbert...not sure his mechanics are fluid enough to get the ball out quickly. That could be a problem. Jordan Love...he played at Utah State..and didn't have a great year this year..he seems to be the media's PET CAT...flavor of the day of the GM'S. Count me as not sold yet.He seems to stare down guys and struggles in his reads.Relies on his arm too much. MANY will give me flack on this one, but I will say Chaisson. The edge guy from LSU. He has to go to the perfect team in order for him to be used right. He is a thinner fast edge guy with great bend.BUT he lacks strength/girth at the line of scrimmage. Seems like more of a specialist than a starter. We really wanna draft a specialist in round 1? Seems to me he's overvalued. Great athlete, but the issue is, where do ya play him? Bust factor is high with him.
crazy lots of mocks have us taking Chaisson at 17 and a S in round 2..pretty sure that was Gregory's mock description and if not for weed , he could be great player being thin with bend..

Not a bash Dak thread. But if negotiations don’t go as planned. Isn’t it smart for organization to prepare for the inevitable. Hold outs and bad feelings. MM doesn’t have any connections with Dak. He might want a fresh start.

Makes little sense. Now drafting a QB at some point would be great. And what guarantees are there that this kid will be any good?

Some of you guys seem to think that all you need to do to get the next Mahomes is use a first round pick on a QB.

He was asking for more than the Steelers were willing to pay and he sat out and still got it. That’s the comparison. If anything, Dak not being a RB helps him with this because he has twice the shelf life

He would not make up 30MM in earnings. His opportunity cost is MUCH different than that of Bell and the RB position where he was risking 12-15MM. As it is he'll never make back the money he lost because for 1 season he earned 0.

Also at this stage of Dak's carrer what does a missed season do to his upward trajectory? HIs marketability. etc

not that high but Jhurts at 3/4th I think hes a lot like dak, easy tp plugs in this offense for 2021..he has year under Dak and MM/KM also use him like Taysom Hill in 2020 to get his feet wet in nfl speed etc..
No he's not. Pretty much a polar opposite of Dak. Why would you say he's a lot like Dak?

Yeah right.
I seen his entire college career.
He can play.
It's "I've watched" his entire career. Which I think you haven't.

He can't throw early before a break to a receiver. They have to be wide open or he runs. Why do you think he transferred to OK? He was demoted.

I'm not saying he stinks. However, I believe he'll fail or get hurt in the big boy league. He'll fall to the lower first round or early second if he's lucky, IMO.

Ah, but Jalen Hurts plays nothing like either of those two. Did you just strengthen my point?!!!!!
Nope.
I strengthend mine.
Those two QBs you mentioned don't play like Jalen Hurts either.
But the fact is you don't know how his game is going to translate to the NFL.
The last player I misjudged was Lil Jordan Humphrey.
I have a great prediction record in judging NFL talent.

No it doesn't make sense to use your first round pick on a backup plan. If you draft a guy at 17 he needs to be the new franchise qb.

Nah as a college player same comp , I see the same type of player.. funny ALA and OK won with him , Heisman candidate in both paces,, go ahead say it wans the school but I saw players like LSUS guy play very average on e year and great the next , Jhurts is being pigeon holed much lime a Jackson with the downplaying his throwing ability and hes just runner. I see a lot of Dak in Jhurts from his college days took dak 4 years here to even start to become a better thrower, waiting for dak to become a pure passer but aka a thrower, hes improved..

Its been proven , better coaching staff with player like Jackson showed what you can do with these types of players and MM and KM can take hurts with year under dak under the tag and get him up to speed..thats my opinion but another 4th rounder that has potential in the new nfl offenses..im down for trying.. always a vet like Winston or cam , fits out there that can play for half what daks demanding on prove it deals..

cowboys make take a flier on a QB in the lower rounds, unless one of the top ones falls into their laps and they have him rated as a top 10...is Love a top 10 QB? he has warts. I don't even consider Tua a top 10 candidate.

but we may take a flier in the 4th or 5th round as we have been in the past, with a QB that may have a upside. usually we take one that has the measurables, arms, etc. but may lack in experience....and see if he develops...ala Dak….we did with White as well and it didn't work out...

So have I. Up close and personal. The guy cannot make decisions or read a defense fast enough in college. The NFL requires even faster decision making. He will not make it as a QB

what they did with Le’Veon is rescind the tag once they realized he meant business

The Steelers never rescinded the tag. Bell just never signed it, sat out the whole year with no pay, and the Steelers got a cap credit after every game he missed.
