His approach to this off season after the draft with everything we have going on in the US will be crucial to the success of this season.

I am curious to see how we approach the draft this season. With Will McClay still being in house will it really be a different approach? If Cee Dee Lamb is available do we draft him?

Ehhh.....I hate to be that guy but all he did was sign 2 30 year old defensive tackles and let 2 of his best defensive players from last season go. Granted, I have no problem with this but those departures and additions probably have more to do with the Cowboys than him.

But I already know what this is. Fluff piece while we are in the honeymoon phase.

We haven't had a coaching staff in a VERY long time that gave the opponents something to fear. We always talk about the three phases of the game that we need to win: offense, defense and special teams. I truly believe there are four. Add coaching to that mix.

I don't know if MM can be that coach or not. He wasn't at the end of his tenure in Green Bay. I do know, for me personally, I was a far better leader in my second school district that I was in my first. I was able to learn from my mistakes and had a much better vision of how I wanted to do things. I still don't know about MM. But, "not knowing" is a massive improvement over how I've felt about our coaching in forever.

I think McClay and the scouts have been overridden in the past by coaches with strict player profiles. Hopefully the change we see is an increase in McClay's influence, following the draft board and just drafting good football players instead of reaching for guys coaches love and fit their schemes. How different would the Dallas defense look with Juan Thornhill and TJ Watt?

Thankfully, the two men most responsible for the coaches overruling the scouts - Marinelli and Garrett - were both fired and can no longer ruin the draft process.

Hope he has any say or influence about dak’s contract . Lots of cap space needed to pluck holes on the defense and reinforce the OL . If Dak gets his crazy money , not sure how McCarthy will manage to keep the roster competitive .

I would agree that not everything that has happened is due to McCarthy. The Cowboys were probably still going to loose Jones and Quinn regardless of who the coach is.

Having said that, if Garrett was still here I doubt he would have signed any DTs and/or Safeties. Or at least players we have ever heard of.

Sure, McCoy and Poe are past their prime and HaHa may be washed up. But at least we are not going with the same old "we like our guys" that was so prevalent in the Garrett era.

So while I would say that MM had little to do with the departures, the additions seems to have his fingerprints all over them.

I was thinking the same thing, it does appear we got older in some spots, I think MM prefers the seasoned vet, but time will tell.

We don't know how he plans to address replacing Jones and Quinn, but we do know the defense is going to look much different. I expect them to try and replace those two guys via the draft, I do like the defensive options available in the first four rounds. Me personally, I like the Baun kid from Wisconsin; he can bring the heat off the edge!
