I agree Newman and Ware were great in Dallas, but not the years they got cut. They noticeably upticked the next year at their new destination.

Demarcus Ware was scheduled to have a cap hit of 16 Million when he was coming off a season with 6 sacks. He signed a much bigger contract than Dallas was willing to offer and gave Denver an average of..... 7 sacks per season.

Two years after posting 20 sacks in a season in Dallas.

Yes, as per the article, other teams got great use out of your first round picks. Ware was a huge part of that Denver super bowl team, and Newman had a career resurrection in Cincinnati.

Newman had a much better DC and surrounding players. Yes he looked good in Cincinnati, as well, he followed Zimmer to Minnesota and did ok there.
Ware, the same thing in Denver, he had Von Miller there too. He was a big contributor though, and he did play well in the SB. His last few years in Dallas he was battling injuries and a bad DC. That and his cap hit played a huge role in releasing him. Can't fault Dallas at the time for either player, as Newman was having injuries as well.

Hitchens, they wanted to keep him, but KC offered too much. He was no better in KC, but played well with a supporting cast. Though their defense at times seemed not so good, they played big when they needed to. Something the Dallas defense has not done for years.

Bennett to Bear played decent, but not great, nor did he play great in NE, he did drop the potential game winning TD in OT against the Falcons, but the next play or 2 someone else caught it.

So yes Newman and Ware played well. All other players that left Dallas never really contributed as to being a huge factor. Unless you count Amedola, from years ago, that would not have cracked the 53 at the time. Not any fault to the team. A hindsight TC cut many used against the FO no matter what. Things just happen at times.

He did not have 7.5 sacks he had 4 with the Dolphins lol.........

Did you just make up all of the above?

One of those players is defensive end Taco Charlton, who was brought in after Week 2 of the 2019 season as a waiver wire addition courtesy of the Dallas Cowboys. The good news? Charlton played 10 games with Miami and ended the season as the team’s leading sack artist with 5 sacks. The bad news? Charlton was a healthy scratch for several late games in the 2019 season and his 5 sacks aren’t fully indicative of how irregular his pass pressure was throughout the course of the season.

Like I said above, seemed like they got the same exact Taco we got rid of regardless of his 4 sacks he got there.

Seems to be a 2-way street. Terrence Newman, Morris Claiborne, Demarcus Ware, Taco Charlton all immediately improved after leaving Dallas. Watch Byron Jones go get 8 picks this year

Terrence Newman had his best years as a Cowboy. His confidence took a hit during his last year here, he was still only an average player anywhere else.

Claiborne had his best season here..he just couldn’t stay healthy.

Same with Ware during his last season, he was always a double digit sack guy before then.

I’ll give you Taco but he was fighting for playing time late in the season with the Dolphins.

This whole “defenders leave Dallas and are better” is such a myth.

Exactly, the only guy you can really point to is Bennett (or a year or so of DeMarco Murray, who was wildly overpaid) and with Bennett he was behind Witten so you can argue it was really more about getting more reps.

Yeah I'd probably add Demarco too. Sucked in Philly but killed it with the Titans.

Mo beefed up & seemed to have rededicated himself to getting better near the end of his stint here, but injuries pretty much derailed him.

What? Demarcus Ware and Terrance Newmans best years were definitely in Dallas. They just got older and we decided to move on from them.

his 19.5 sack season was 3 years before Denver. That’s an eternity for a guy in his 30’s, and the 20 sack season was a lot longer than that. But he did have 10 and 7.5 sacks his first :”2 years in Denver while switching defenses and positions; not a bad war to spend your 30’s

right, but when they were moved on from they were not what they of were, and found some resurgence with their next team, which is the point of the thread

He had 5 sacks and 2 FF I checked on nfl.com. Still that is solid in the games he played in.

He had 5 but you said he had 7.5 sacks.....that is not 5. Not only that but he actually had less tackles there than he did here.

5 Sacks its find and dandy but he also got some coaching decisions. Those coaching decision tell far more of the story than those sacks do.

Most of the guys we've picked up that have thrived have almost been considered bust until they came here. The guys you mentioned have shots at the Hall of Fame because of there career in Dallas before they left. Big difference.
