I think it is 100% clear that the Cowboys are either going DL or CB in the first round.

If that is truly the case, then what sense does it make for them to sign a big priced corner or DE?

I even think that they are thinking that if they take a DT with the first pick like Kinlaw, then they can always play Mccoy at DE if they have to.

Todd Mcshay had Henderson in his Mock 4 draft today.

So what's the line? McCoy, Poe, Kinlaw and Lawrence?

Vernon, for some reason, seemed the only guy in the league who has ever had multiple good games against Tyron.

Signing here might be attractive for a DE who takes a 1 year show me deal. Quinn cashed in big time with all the attention Tank commanded. Vernon is a few months younger.

Preface this by saying that I don’t think we sign any DE before the draft, if at all. But one DE I’ve had my eye on as a late, cheap upside signing (kinda like the Quinn trade last year) is Olivier Vernon. Vernon is set to make $15.5m this year in the final year of his contract for CLE, but they can cut him with no dead money. CLE just signed DE Adrian Clayborn (below). No doubt a Vernon cut is coming (or I guess he could agree to a restructure). He’s not played a full season the last 3 years. But he’s still only 29. And in those last 3 years - 33 games played - he’s had 93 tackles and 17 sacks. He produces when he plays. If he would take a one year prove it deal for <$8m, he might be a target after the draft. Thoughts?

Hell naw. He hasn’t done jack lately.

We can only dream that Kinlaw is there at 17. Something tells me we will have another Aaron Donald situation though.
Tough to predict. I've been looking at a bunch of mock drafts have him going as high as top 10...I've seen as low as to 17. It also depends if some teams trade into that top 17 to get a receiver or a quarterback.

Just my theory but I don’t think they’re looking at traditional “4-3 RDEs” like we had last year with Quinn. Yes Mccarthy has said “we’ll be a 4 down lineman defense” but I think it will still be a multiple type D. The best pass rusher on the right side may actually end up playing weak side linebacker. On the left it will be Tank. Think of Tank as a linebacker on the left but starting with his hand on the ground & rushing most of the time. When the weak side linebacker (standing up) rushes it would look just like a 3-4 defense with both OLBs rushing. When he drops back it looks like a 4-3. Instead of two 5 techniques and a traditional nose you have Crawford, Poe, and Mccoy as the 3 inside guys playing 4, 1/0, and 3 technique respectively. Hence the reason why they may be keeping Crawford on the roster. In this situation you’d want a guy 285-290lbs playing RDE or “4 technique”. Question is, who is the rushing weak side linebacker? Jaylon with Lee and LVE in the middle? Gregory with Jaylon and LVE in the middle? Rookie? Either way, I think this definitely opens up options and is not as predictable.

I bet that they figure McCoy could play de if need be. So dt is still on the table for the first pick.
