I think unless he has a super camp, he may be out on the street. Hill was a pick from the old coaching staff and I don't think they like smaller DT's.

Super as not having Marinelli around destroying any confidence

I would think they would give him more time.

  • He was a 2nd round pick just last year
  • He is 22 years old
  • He is a DT and we are thin At that position
  • He’s only due to be paid 1.1m
  • His dead cap hit if he were cut is 1.8m
Pretty much no chance they cut him unless they are somehow personally angry at the guy and want to spend money to make him go away
I agree - I would think he would have to have a horrible camp to not get a 2nd season. He will, however, need to make some notable strides this season or he may not get a 3rd.

Do DT Signings Indicate Cowboys are Done With Trysten Hill?

...A year ago that prediction was based on the idea that Trysten Hill, after a year of grooming, would be able to step into a larger role. That’s what you typically expect from second and even third-round picks in most cases.

But it was a rough rookie season for Hill, not getting much playing time early and also being disciplined by then-coach Jason Garrett for tardiness and sleeping at team meetings. However, his performance did seem to be on an upswing by the end of the year.

Clearly it wasn’t enough for the Cowboys to trust him in 2020, though. They added Gerald McCoy on a three-year deal to play the same spot on the line, the “3-tech” DT role, where Hill is most suited. The fact that it’s a three-year contract is especially damning. It’d be one thing if it was just a single-year deal; a chance for Trysten to keep being groomed and learning from one of the best in the business. But McCoy’s three years will run through the end of Hill’s rookie contract with Dallas...

LOL, after one season? Come on.....

I agree, I honestly don't think JG or Marinelli gave this young man a fighting chance. They were too worried about saving their own hides with likes of Covington, Hyder. However, aside from that he has to come out the gate ready to play. Last year he was not strong enough mentally or physically.

Sure, but being on the smaller side, he is not what they would typically look for, draft, or go out and get.
McC drafted Mike Daniels, same build/size. Think he's even smaller.

Jerell Worthy, 6-2/308. Also the same size.
Khyrie Thornton, 6-3/304. Again.

Unless you mean Jerry. McC appears to being given what he wants, for the most part.

Nolan and MM said they like big guys for DT's and went out and got two really big guys. They also said they like football players of any type as long as they can play. Nice to hear that a coach doenst pass up on a good football player because he doesn't fit into some kind of prototype box. That's where Marrineli went wrong.

Hill was a reach and thus far has been a disappointment. Current coaches went out and signed two starters to play the position he was drafted for. So make up whatever you want in your head, the evidence paints a picture that they aren't counting on Hill.
