Get Aggressive!

The more and more I think about it, I believe this is the draft to get aggressive. 17 is just about the area where the talent drops off. Someone may fall someone may not. It reminds me a lot of the 2013 draft when the cowboys absolutely bailed and didn’t get the trade value they should have.

It ended up working out great with Frederick being the pick. The Cowboys have to be more prepared entering this draft. They have to operate under the assumption that all there top players will be off the board.

It’s very possible the consideration at 17 would come down to guys like Diggs or Fulton. I think we all are of the same opinion that this would be a decent pick but probably in the mid 20s and not at 17. This leads into my point.

Go get your guy! SF at 13 would be a great spot to trade up. They have a good amount of needs and very little draft selections. Go up and get your Kinlaw, Brown, Chaisson or one of the WRs.

It is somewhat forgivable if you get aggressive and your pick doesn’t work out rather than to sit, wait, pick a player that doesn’t fit value and doesn’t work out as well. I don’t want this to be the “what could have been draft.”

Let me know what you guys think and who you would go up for.

A slot receiver, CB1, Edge rusher, TE, Safety, 3T, 1T, IOL, OT, LB would all be nice not necessarily in that order. Jimmy Johnson didn't hit on all of his picks but he had a lot of picks. The year we picked Emmitt Smith he was actually trading up for Blair Thomas but he went sooner. And Woodson was taken in the second round. I'm a big fan of lots of picks and there are a lot of good players starting at pick 17 and on into the top of round four. Picks 18-32 have good players like Baun, Murray, Higgins, Johnson, Jefferson, Hamler, Gladney, Reagor, Diggs all of whom would fill needs. Rounds two and three would be the same story.

If Henderson and Chaisson were slightly better prospects I would. That sounded stupid typing it but I am leaving it as is lol

If I am positive one is a lock down #1 CB or a 10 sack pass rusher, then Im more than willing to be agressive. While Im confident in Chaisson, and warming up to Henderson, right now I just dont feel they are if the caliber I would move for. At 17? Definitely. Trading a pick that should net another starting caliber player? No

Chaisson especially. Im more willing to give up a premium pick, if I know they player will be able to make lesser players better. Thats usually a pass rusher.

Im not trading up for Chaisson. In fact I'm not even taking him at 17.

I'm all for being aggressive this draft and not just in the first round. With the amount of comp picks we will be receiving next year, I have no problem if they trade a 3rd to move up for Kinlaw, Brown, Lamb, or Jeudy if one falls a few spots before our pick. Also not against using this years 4th and some of next years pick to move back up into the back half of the 3rd round for a safety or offensive lineman the coaches really like.

If we were 1 player away maybe, but we have a lot of needs on defense so I think we need more picks not less.

If Kinlaw is gone, I’d rather trade back to 20-25 if I can get an extra 2 or 3 rd pick

If you are going to move up for a stud/ top 10 player is widely is regarded as such I am making that move.
Lamb is that guy for me no matter what draft he would be regarded as a top 10 prospect and because he is a WR in a very deep draft at the position if he somehow falls outside the top 10 and it cost me only a 3rd I am doing it. Juedy you can argue is very comparable to Cooper as far as style, both of them are great route runners that can play inside and outside.
Borderline guy
Kinlaw if the knees are okay, he can be a guy who can sniff around 8 sacks per year from the interior which would be huge from an interior pass rusher. That is something that would be much needed long term, and I think he would be a great rotational guy with Poe and McCoy.

Well Said. I have a feeling a lot of folks are acting as if 8 sacks from the interior is not enough drafting that player inside the top 15. I think everyone’s standard is Aaron Donald and guess what... that isn’t going to happen. If a player could give me 1000 yards or 8 sacks and I’m drafting them in the top 17, I would take that all day.

Denzel Mims at 17? I just made a post in another thread that he might be the #3 WR in this class, whats your thought?

I like Mims. I like him a lot more in a trade down scenario. He’s definitely not a top 3 WR for me. It’s for sure a combo of Lamb, Jeudy and Ruggs. I like his wheels and versatility but he’s not the jump ball guy that Higgins is. He’s got a lot of tools and id like it in the mid to late 20s.

Kinlaw has the ability to play in any scheme and play multiple positions.

I wouldn't trade up as I see #17 as the cutoff point. There are 17 players I like in the draft. After that it's a tossup so we're sitting in the perfect spot. If we were picking 18 I would be worried that one of those guys don't fall to us.
