Eh, he won with his length a lot too. 285 might be high, but he should be able to play the Julius Peppers style of game pretty well at a higher weight.

I'd imagine the firs-step is largely gone, regardless of his weight.
He is gonna be an interesting watch in TC. He had a well rounded package. If you take his speed away, he still more to win with. It will be interesting to see what kind of football shape he is in and how rusty he is

If he's been doing all the MMA-type training stuff with Glazer, he'll be in shape with a full camp. Rust would be the bigger question, but that type of "combat" activity does translate pretty well to line play - better than most other things anyway.

Honestly, who knows lol.

But, @Bobhaze says he doesn't have a chance! I'm so confused!!!

Yeah who knows..

The guy was a machine at one point..

It sounds like he has his life in order and he’s 30 so he should have 2 or 3 elite levels of football in him potentially.

The 4 year layoff was long.. I think a lay-off like that does help in some ways.. Letting the body rest and getting the mental rejuvenation.

It’s interesting.. I think with Aldon, Gregory, and Armstrong we can get by and potentially have something much better then that.

If David Irving comes back then the D Line will have a lot of question marks but the upside tremendous..

It will be a good follow in camp. What could he interesting if we do get Gregory back, and still draft Chaisson. Thats an interesting group of rushers

I wouldn't worry about playing weight in April. Assuming there is a normal training camp, they can easily get him down closet to 275ish if needed. The good thing is he's apparently in good physical condition.

More importantly, he still has a daily fight on his hands in his quest to overcome alcoholism. Hopefully it works out.

He may show flashes early in the season but at best I don’t think he gets all of the rust knocked off until around week 8.

It's actually weird that you think it's weird.

I don't know how some of you hang out on a football forum for hours a day and come away knowing nothing about football. What is even the point?

So you're upset? Lol. It's just opinions man. Get off your soap box. It's more serious things to worry about these days

With all those guys playing and playing at full potential, we quite possible could have one of the most dominating lines in the league. That in itself guarantees you wins, add in a consistent offense and we have a real chance at a deep run.

So much of Marinelli's scheme was the execution of stunts, tricks, etc. It seems like this year the DTs will be the huge loads taking up all kinds of space so the DEs can rush and LBs cover a ton of ground. All three of those groups are set up for that very well, its really a question of what happens at RDE with Smith, Gregory and Dorance Armstrong.

But potentially, its a dominant group like you say.

The thing I really like about this video is Glazer LOL'ing at the idea AB is similar to Aldon Smith. If what they are saying is true, Smith really has turned his life around and I really doubt AB ever does.

Sounds encouraging from a personal level. Not sure he can still do it from a physical level, though.

As long as he has all of the rust knocked off by the conference championship game, he could be huge for us in that game.....
