Neither of those takes is far fetched. All three of those signings are stop-gap players with name recognition.

Just look at what each of those players was paid and how quickly they signed to get an idea of what the market thought of them.

Well, I would say there is a 50% chance of being worse and a 50% chance of being better. I like the Cowboy signings so far. I don't really mind losing any of the players we lost other than Fredbeard. But, truth be told, the OL is a position of strength and Fredbeard was not the same as before.

Losing Byron Jones is another of those flip-a-coin guesses right now. $16M in one basket for a player with basically no INTs is a roll of the dice. There are a few remaining CBs out there on the FA market. I think one played for the Titans. Logan? Maybe his price drops and the Cowboys can pick him up.

That is why they play the games. We will find out if the team is better or worse as soon as the season starts. Until then, flip a coin.

The team itself IS the same as it was last season. Once the training/drills & new coaching starts, I believe we'll see a complete overhaul.

Actually there right on the money with that one.

yeah, none of those opinions seem like particularly outlandish or unreasonable. The Heath hate is real though, lol...I thought he was average, not the walking disaster he is portrayed to be. From what I understand Dix is pretty average, so let's say he's on the high end of average and Heath is on the low end....

McCoy and Poe are definitely better names, but Carolina's run defense was atrocious last year. Hopefully they have some Robert Quinn in them.

Even more hopeful I'm wildly wrong and these 3 are in running for DPOY.

Listening to the Break. These guys are out of their minds. They think Haha is a wash for Jeff Heath. LMAO. They also think Collins/Woods are about equal to McCoy/Poe.

they all believe this team is worse than it was a year ago.

I don’t think the signings will improve the defense.

Awuzie is your #1 right now

Not that it changes anything you said, bc it doesn't. But he's our best cb and will be the #1 if this was our group of cbs

Which still puts Brown or Lewis starting on the outside. That's a problem.

Yes, I agree with you on all counts. I expect pass rush to improve solely based on creativity, scheme, and increased blitzing.

I definitely think that defensive tackle is much improved, by leaps and bounds. And that should help a lot. And I think that safety is marginally improved as well.

I think that Clinton-Dix and either Woods or Donovan Wilson (yes I think he gets a fair shot at the job) at SS is a better pair than Heath and Woods were in 2019.

But the losses of Quinn and Byron Jones still loom large, depending on what if anything else we do in free agency and the draft.

And the loss of Cobb at slot receiver is significant as well. Not to do something crazy like drafting a receiver high in the draft, but a need to be filled all the same.
Really hope Donovan Wilson can get that safety spot. Would love to be set there and with a cheap contract.

I'm not sure if its a problem yet. The real problem with the secondary was to me how they had them playing 10 yards off receivers on 3rd and 8. Little things like that bothered me. I think Lewis, Chido and Brown are a good solid core of corners. I'd still want to draft another however.

Heath MAY be better than Hilarious. I’m inclined to think McCoy at 75 percent of his previous self is an improvement over what we had. Poe is a fire hydrant. How is that not an improvement?

It's not that much different than some here who think the free agent players that get signed are upgrades. Clinton-Dix 2018, his last partial year, with the packers, they had just exercised the 5th year option and had hopes he would regain what he did 2 seasons prior. After 7 games they decided he did not and found a team, the skins, to trade him to. He did nothing in Washington and they didn't even offer he a contract before the 2019 free agency started. He eventually signed a 1 year prove it contract with the bears and when that expired this off season they didn't offer him a new contract. Now comes the Cowboys who also sign him to a 1 year prove it contract and I'm sure it is in hopes that he will at least come close to his 2016 season under McCarthy. Now Clinton-Dix hasn't done much since 2016, Heath may not have much in the pick category but he's been a sure tackler that Clinton-Dix hasn't been. So at best Clinton-Dix is a wash for Heath if you base both on the past couple of seasons.

Same here. And it would also help since Xavier Woods is going into a contract year. Having Wilson take that job would take a lot of the pressure off of retaining Woods.

It would but then we'd have another hole there. I Think they trying retain Woods. Early prediction but it wouldn't shock me if they try to sign him early to get him for a fair deal.

I'll agree that adding McCoy and Poe in the middle is an improvement temporarily.

But people are going to realize here in a few months how much they miss Jeff "the GOAT" Heath.

That would surprise me as Woods gives me the impression of a player that thinks he's better than he is. I will be surprised if a player like that forgoes free agency and signs a reasonable deal early.

There are a couple of serious flaws with the thought process of the guys on the break ...

First is that if the team isn't improved, or is worse, it is not because of having McCoy/Poe vsCollins/Woods, or having Ha Ha vs. Heath. It's unfathomable to me that anyone would think those moves were anything but a gain for the Cowboys. If the Cowboys aren't improved or have lost ground it will be because of the loss of Frederick, Cobb, Quinn and Jones.

Which brings us to the second serious flaw, which is that they are comparing a team that was fully assembled after having gone through free agency. trades and the draft, to the current team that is only 2 weeks into the free agency period, and that could still make trades, and still has the draft to look forward to.

I continue to believe (maybe wishful) that if we upgrade DL and SS in the draft we won’t miss Byron as much
