I wouldn't mind a bit if they took him in round three.

Overview
Like Tim Tebow, Hurts is a winning dual-threat quarterback known for his strength, toughness and character. Hurts is a more accurate passer and better runner than Tebow but is inconsistent as a decision-maker and tends to break the pocket when throws are there to be made. His deep-ball touch and intermediate accuracy improved this year so teams may see him as a developmental talent who will keep getting better in the right scheme. He'll struggle to beat NFL defenses from the pocket, but his ability to grind out yards on the ground and make off-schedule plays should make him a solid backup with upward mobility.

Strengths
  • Finished with 38-4 record as a starter
  • Tremendous leadership qualities
  • Extremely tough and durable
  • Shows poise to make plays late in games
  • Has experience in a variety of schemes
  • Able to step and drive with adequate velocity
  • Uses athletic ability and strength to elude pocket pressure
  • Play extender who can make big plays on the move
  • Good accuracy on intermediate passes
  • Capable as rollout passer
  • Talented, powerful runner from direct snap and RPO
  • Leg drive to move piles and fall forward behind his pads

With that offense (assuming the Center position will be manned in a competent manner) he is 2016-2019 Prescott IMO. He would win a lot of games. Put up good numbers. Keep turnovers low and cost little against the cap. He could start in Dallas in 2020 and the team would win games. Probably 10.

And...a guy just like him will be able to do the same thing 4 years later as long as the team drafts well and acquires talent around the QB position. See most Nick Saban teams and Jimmy Johnson or Dennis Erickson or Larry Coker Hurricanes teams.

Hurts will end up being the best QB in this class.

He could be. The argument can be made that Dak was the best QB in the 2016 draft.

Hard for me to choose between Hurts/Tua/Herbert/Love. All 4 have huge question marks. Burrow looks to be the best in my opinion. However, he played on a stacked LSU team. Put Hurts on that LSU team and I think they still win the Championship. Burrow has the bad luck of spending the first 5 years of his career in Cincinnati, the cheapest team in the league. Burrow will get no help.

If Hurts lucks out and gets drafted by a team with a lot of talent and a coach who knows how to maximize his talent, I think he could easily be the most successful of the QB class even if he might not be the best.

Hurts lost his 'job' and team to Tua and may get the last laugh when all is said and done. I do not think Tua is all that good and I don't see him being able to take hits from players or the ground.
