New coaching staff, so we'll see. Only locks are Cooper and Gallup as of now.

I think we're gonna see a lot of Pollard in the slot. He's too good to not be utilized more, but he's not good enough to take snaps away from Zeke. So MM is gonna find ways for him to get the ball.
He's not paid enough to take snaps from Zeke*

I feel like this thread is just a bad trolling attempt. Everyone here knows who Devin Smith is at this point. Everyone knows his injury history and ultimately what he does/doesn’t bring to the table. At best, he’s probably an okay reserve receiver on the outside...definitely not the slot. If you have a #1 or #2 that is better in the slot, he can be a good #3 WR. The problem is after that, he isn’t an ideal #4 because he apparently isn’t good enough on special teams, despite his ability as a gunner in college. He’s probably worth keeping as a #5, because you aren’t likely to find a better injury replacement.

Only a matter of time.
Until he got hurt? You’re absolutely correct. He isn’t built to take 25 snaps a game. Jesus the last time he took snaps from Zeke he fumbled in the biggest moment of the season. Then Zeke got blamed for taking himself out of the game lol.

Devin Smith played at Ohio State, my alma mater. I knew him before anyone here even heard of him.

Unintentional comedy is the best comedy, @CowboyRoy. :muttley:

this isn’t a dig at you, but did you attend school at the same time as him? It’s not like OSU is some podunk school that you need to be plugged in to to be aware of their rosters, so what insight does previously attending afford you over others who rabidly devour big school prospects?

So are you saying that he isnt a good prospect?
He's going into his 4th season in the NFL, so it's hard to treat him as if he is still a prospect. That's not to say he might not be capable of more than his NFL career has shown so far, but skepticism is understandable at this point.

huh...wth? No, I love the player. He has potential. Calm down man. I love his speed and potential. He just doesn't look like a slot guy, but maybe that's because Garrett was coaching him..thats a possible issue . MM will give him a chance. That's not bashing him.

Sandray Lai was coaching up Devin Smith - Not Garrett.
And Sandray was always been big on proper routes, assignments and discipline. o_O

Slot WR do not get that far down field or they will not be effective. Your slot WR has to get immediate separation to give the QB short and intermediate options. Great video but not selling me on Smith as a slot WR. Tavon Austin, because of his returner and running back background would make more sense for what is existing on the roster, and using Pollard more in the slot is a given (see M&M use Ty Montgomery and Randall Cobb in Greenbay).

He got embarrassed by Eli Apple. There is a reason he was inactive most of the season. After his TD against Norman, he was completely ineffective. That TD just sticks out in people's mind. Id be surprised if he is even in the roster next year

He made some plays when no defenses were really paying attention to him and disappeared when he was asked to step up. I think some fans got overexcited by a couple of big plays.

It's almost the equivalent of thinking Sam Hurd could be something special because he practically did the same thing in his second season with Dallas. There needs to be a lot more evidence that Smith is just not on that level.

2 things:

Smith can't stay on the field.

Smith is a straightline athlete and doesn't possess the lateral agility to play the slot.

You can't just put a player in a position because you want to.
