HBD to a great Cowboy legend.

I met TD in a hospital about 15 years ago. My wife and I had gone there to see my niece who was expecting her first child. TD was in the same waiting room area waiting for the birth of a grandchild if my memory is correct.

Two things I remember about that:
  • TD was smaller than I expected. He looked to be in great shape but was not very big.
  • He was very nice and seemed unaffected by fame. Most people didn’t even recognize him.

i met the retired Dorsett at a seminar quite awhile of years back, and he was a pleasant, down to earth fellow. It was a pleasure and delight meeting
with him. .. not every NFL player or Sports celebrity is like that.- Trust me.

He was quite a small fellow. It was like i was talking to Scandrick. And this was well before all of the reports of the CTE issues he is currently
going through. i so wish the very best for him and his family with this affliction.

i love how YouTube and how it has available games of the Cowboys and allows me to watch and study past Cowboys teams and players - such as Dorsett.
Though he was a finesse runner, and he was too easy to knock down, Dorsett's is initial burst and instant acceleration and ability to bounce to daylight
was something special. Once he pulled away from a crowd of defenders that was it ... TD time!
Only one defender ever was able to fetch Dorsett from a distance - and that was Darrell Green !

Happy Birthday Tony D.

Me too. Loved his spin move, his instant acceleration, and the cool walk that he had. Dorsett was a dynamo.
I grew up in Maryland, so I was a die-hard Commanders fan. Hated the Cowboys and Roger Staubach. But I loved me some Tony Dorsett from college. So when the Cowboys drafted him, I instantly became a Cowboys fan. And the rest, as they say, is history.

I also had the pleasure of meeting and talking with him in 1995, I think it was. I agree with you. He didn't seem as big as I thought he would be, and he looked like he could go into a game and play well right then. He was a friendly, humble, and thoughtful gentleman.

Yeah that year the 2 top RB where Tony and Ricky Bell. I remember watching both RB in college, for Bell his life would be cut short because of a disease he contracted.
Tampa Bay drafted Bell 1st overall then Dallas would pull a trade with the seahawks to get TD.
Being a Cowboy fan that grew up in Tampa, I heard the "What if the Bucs had drafted Tony Dorsett instead of Ricky Bell" debate a lot. I believe Tampa Bay took Ricky Bell because head coach John McKay was also his head coach at USC.

Happy Birthday Tony! I was ecstatic that they traded to get him. I followed him at Pitt and was enamored with him. Never expected Seattle to do that trade. Thanks for all of the memories. The man was so exciting to watch and boy could he take it to the house even when he looked to be tackled by a mob.
