Hopkins is the better WR. Whether I’d trade him straight up for Elliott, I don’t know about that.

I’d rather have Cooper and Zeke than just Hopkins.

Arizona giving up Johnson not being a big deal to them may be true, but on the other side, for Houston, he's a player. Would they have taken just a 2nd? I don't think so.

If the question was would Hopkins + a 3rd round compensatory pick be worth a 2nd round pick and no Cooper? Then absolutely, 100 times yes. But, I don't think that is a realistic option.

Dj has not been good for a couple years now. He was terrible last year and Drake took the starting role after being traded to arz.

That is a sunk cost though. It is not really relevant to this particular mental gymnastics exercise.

It may be but I don't think the team sees it that way. To be honest, I don't either. It's why we haven't moved away from him IMO.

So in totality, we waste a 1st & 2nd round pick + a high contract on the receiver position and net a third round pick?

Or, looking at it in reality you trade Amari for Hopkins and the real cost, going forward is the difference in value between our 2nd round pick this year and a 3rd round comp pick next year.

That would be the true draft capital cost. The first is a sunk cost either way.

Maybe so. I just think once you have spent the cost (sort of like Taco) once you have made the call and done it, the only thing that matters is where you are now and what the player is worth going forward.

We couldn't undo that though, so it doesn't apply to options this offseason.

No, what's done is done, for sure. But I do think it has played out in our actions this year. I don't think we pay as much as we did if we weren't so unwilling to part with Cooper.

That's just the opinion of one idiot.

I trade Zeke for Hopkins, assuming hypothetically there is little to no dead money. You probably get OBrien to throw in a pick. Then i let Cooper walk, and recalibrate plans in free agency altogether.

Not meant to slight Zeke. He's a beast. But I believe most GMs make that trade.

in the 2015 draft...we could have drafted David Johnson in the 2nd Rd.

Hopkins is the best WR playing today. Mike Evans is probably #2, followed by Coop.

It looks like Arizona dumps salary but trading away Johnson. I would say that part of the deal was +1 for Arizona.

Essentially they gave up a second for Hopkins once the smoke clears. We could have netted a third round comp pick for letting Amari walk.

I think Hopkins was worth a second round pick if his contract numbers are $18-20m per year are accurate if you let Amari walk.

Im not saying we should have been involved in that trade, but would we have been better off with giving up a 2nd for Hopkins, and letting Amari walk and getting a 3rd round comp pick in return for roughly the same money?

Maybe?

Yes, Dallas might be better off with Hopkins in that situation; however, that situation was never going to materialize. Houston wasn't going to accept the 51st pick for Hopkins. They made a terrible trade in my opinion, but it is still better than the 2nd Dallas could have offered.

Hopkins is only worth a 2nd in Bill O’Brien’s idiotic world.
it was a bad trade but they did get a starting RB and a 2nd , they believe not only was hopkins unhappy he wanted to be the 21mil WR he sees lessor talent getting ie AC.. the Texans couldn't afford that as they are cap poor and also have up a great DL in the process..

this most likely them preparing to pay Watson because once a qb gets that big deal, the team will fall apart shortly after..not excusing BILLO but they didnt give him away and BO knows its deep wr draft.. they have the resources to get a cheaper stating WR high in the first round now.
