Idk.

Garret was like a second son to JJ. He wanted him to succeed.

I just cant believe he ripped him all of his power in what was his eventual last year.

Richards on the other hand sucked when given more competence. He was run out of Seattle. And now with more power in Dallas look how bad the defense played.

To touch on what you said about Richards sucking I agree, but you only have to look as far as him and Marinelli running two different schemes that weren't working together advantageously. Garrett was desperate to keep his job, sure he allowed the dysfunction between Richard and Marinelli because his sole responsibility was getting the troops ready for war. The problem that many of us saw was that when things starting going well all of the sudden we would see a coaching staff that seemed afraid to stick with what is working or adjust. The thing I'm saying is it was so toxic and screwed up that the up and down product we viewed was a direct reflection on Garrett being there well past his welcome but still trying to be involved as most of us would.. It's was Jerry's fault at the end of the day for allowing it to happen, but it was crazy dysfunctional. Basically there was no chief, just lots of Indians.

Garrett had no control.

We all knew that. Richard either.

Now Marinelli..yes he had some pull.

I was so worried Richard would be HC and Marinelli would be promoted, too after Garrett was leaving.

Thank God no.

Yes, but if you don't think Garrett still didn't get involved somewhat with trying to put his blueprint on scheming your losing your mind. This is why Garrett would look so sick, because he knew any suggestions he made were met with resistance, but make no mistake he had a little pull left and that is why we saw so many crazy week to week gameplans.

Its funny because this thread will go to 20 pages without anyone actually reading it. Frazier isn't saying Richard was perfect and Garrett meddled, he is saying Richard made too many tweaks and Garrett may have told him to back off at some point.

Also way before the part about Garrett and Richard, the article says this:

Frazier expressed a sincere belief in Garrett as a coach and a human being, and has nothing but admiration for how the coach stood up to the barrage of questions from the media. He still has no doubt that the pressure negatively affected how the entire staff did their jobs.

This thread is an absolute microcosm of what goes on on this topic. Every. Single. Time. Ignore reality, put forward an agenda instead, everybody pretends the agenda is accurate. It’s a broken record.

Yes..

The losses made me think it was post-90s games when the team imploded.

The wins were like UFO blips on radar.

Here and gone in an instant.

Crazy for all concerned.

kavon who?
Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Richard Sherman, Brandon Browned . Give anybody that talent. Remember when they began to fall of so did Richard's shine in Seattle leading to him being fired

wrong, the scheme was fine. we ran the same scheme in the secondary before Richard came over, it was also fine in 2018.

I’m curious to see how long these threads last. Will we still be having these threads 20 years from now about Jason Garrett?

Should I start a rant thread about David Shula?

Well, sure but its not all bad. A couple of more pages and we will get to the point of @stasheroo sending missionaries out with his book, just like the Mormons. That mental picture will make it all worth it!

And the excusemakers come out in defense of all of it.

And are proven wrong yet again.

But it never stops them from trying...

Then what was his excuse when he got run out of Seattle?
I don't know or care what happened in Seattle. You have a player here telling you what happened and you are doubting it. I don't know what to tell you. What happened in Seattle is moot.

As easy as it is to blame Garrett...I still think it even goes higher.....He even has the bad clapping...

Of course it does. They both deserved blame. But some of the things Garrett did was criminal.

Unbelievable that there are probably still fans that think he was the next Tom Landry.
Those fans need to go to NY with him and root for him there. There's no room here for stupidity like that. I'm sorry. And I was one of the ones giving Garrett the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure he's a great guy. Probably would've even had success with another franchise. But based on results he wasn't it.

We've all speculated about Garrett interfering with scheme or inserting himself and his ideologies out of fear for his job or not being able to stand seeing other coaches be successful without his help, well Kavon Frasier just alluded to this.

"Frazier also brought up how Richard relied almost exclusively on Cover 3 and man, when in his first two years the defense had also used a lot of Cover 2 and 4. For those who remember that far back, it was reminiscent of how the very complicated Rob Ryan defense keep coming apart back when he was the DC. Although he wasn’t as sure about this, he also thought that Richard may have had his hand forced in some ways by Garrett or even the ownership in some decisions."

Not surprising.

Garrett's reign as head coach is perhaps one of the worst in franchise history mainly because it was so consistently mediocre. This would not shock me.

I would rather lose out than get to 8-8 the majority of the time.

That syndrome just leads to unbased optimism, depending on you leadership.

Garrett always did just enough to almost be relevant but his stint here from 2007-2019 was a huge reason our streak of not making it past the divisional round since 1995 has continued.
