He the kind of WR that will play in this league for a very long time probably.
Good WR, but I wouldn't give up a high draft pick for him and I don't see Carolina actually wanting to for anything less.
He is still on his first contract, so I guess the mindset from Carolina is to get something back and invest in a rookie so they don't have to pay that second deal.
Yeah..

That second deal thing is what has set us back with Amari's new deal.

He's worth it.

Not sure about another WR being paid that way.

Rather spend the money on a TE frankly.

It wouldn't be ideal,,, fortunately we are entering a draft that runs really deep, some exceptional WR depth in this draft.
You cant keep everyone, we all know that,, so you draft the right WR, and it doesn't have to just be on day 1, there will
still be some interesting prospects on day 3.
Goes a long way in preparing yourself for future looming contracts.

Yeah...

I asked a question of the Forum the other day about whether this year we were rebuilding or just retooling.

You suggest stockpiling talent which to me sounds tough with the cap such as it is.

I would be fine to draft a WR high and deploy him from Day One to increase scoring.

All this crying about rebuilding the defense sounds good..

it's going to take time.

If we would just score more points, defense is less of a need.

So give the offense better weapons. Witten did not score much. Neither did Cobb.

I like several of these receivers. But I do not trust Moore to know which one is best.

This is where McCarthy has to start earning his salary.

He needs to decide.

This guy is the missing piece for the offense, a speed and quick receiver than can play slot, outside or line up in the backfield for tosses and jet sweeps. This is the type of Gadget player McCarthy covets for his scheme.

5'-11" 200 lbs 40 time: 4.3 sec

I wouldn't mind giving up 3rd or 4th rounder.

LOL...………..First of all, with a 3rd rounder in this draft you can probably get a very good WR. And on top of that, I would rather give more playing time for those type of things to guys like Pollard and Devin Smith.

Haha Devin Smith who hasn’t done jack poo. Your not gonna find a receiver caliber of Samuel level on day 3.

If stockpiling means possibly adding a dimensional talent at WR, than I have no problem taking that player at 17. I want to surround Dak with multiple options.
But I will say the same for several other that might slip, Kinlaw would be a no brainer,, I just have a hard time believing we are going to be getting that lucky and actually see Ruggs or Kinlaw there.
Denver is in love with Ruggs, and it almost seems that he is penciled in on their board if he last to them at 15.
This board would loose their minds, but Im not upset in the least if one of the OTs gets there.

For a slot guy? Makes zero sense. Btw they need secondary guys that can play. Not 5th / 6th rounders. Has Dallas ever been awarded 2 third round comp picks? That will not happen. On offense the order is going to go Zeke, Cooper, Gallup, Dak and then the TE. Whoever that TE is. The slot guy will be the 5th or 6th option. That 3rd round pick could be next year’s starting S.
A slot guy only had 11 catches less than Gallup last year.
In the modern NFL a slot guy is a starter who will get plenty of opportunities.

NO!!!!!!!!
can we stop on the WR trade talk or go get this or that player..UNTIL AFTER THE DRAFT...!?

FANS have to realize we just dumped 20mil into AC, have gallup, have some depth behind them and the draft ios full of really good WRs and this offense is already taking too much of the cap so 3rd round slot guy will be drafted and this can stop..no more resources at WR, young cheap rookie will be added..

the defense is where most of the high draft is going to..

How about we keep our picks in the deepest WR draft in history and take our own?

Seems better than mortgaging the future and picking up a guy who is closer to needing a big contract.

Not that I'd to the trade, just saying that doing so would be because 1. WRs typically don't "shine" the first year, so we'd have to wait for him to develop, Samuel is a vet and more ready to go and 2. Samuel is a proven (to some degree) NFL receiver, always the uncertainty if your drafted WR will turn out like you hope.

But while you don't just draft for need, this team isn't in the position where you can just go with the BPA if it's at a position you don't have a big need for. Always good in the modern NFL to have several good receivers, but that doesn't do you a lot of good if your offense is sitting on the bench for 35 minutes a game while the defense gives up 75 yard 8 minute drives on your defense, and said drive ends up with a td. At some point you have to look at the defense, both now and for the next couple of years and admit it needs help. And we know there are lots of defensive players whose contracts are out after this year, if you stick with them and this year they don't "do the job" then you're forced into drafting most of your picks on defense next year.

Balance is the key to drafting, with Cooper, Gallup, Jarwin and Zeke all getting a substantial amount of passes, there's not going to be a ton a opportunities for your rookie WR to help your team.

Having said that of course if by the 4th pick there's really not a good prospect for the defense, then taking a WR is fine, he'll help the team more than some "iffy" defensive player. A LOT depends on how the draft goes, so flexibility is also a key...

If McCarthy wants a gadget player why not bring Tavon Austin back and keep the draft pick.

No.........why give up a 3rd or 4th rounder when you can DRAFT a young hungry receiver? Build throught the draft.....this is going to take a couple of years to transition under MM

I said Devin, Pollard, AND 3rd round pick. With the 3rd round pick alone we can get a better receiver than Samuelson. A healthy Devin is better than Samuelson.

Samuels is nothing more than another a Tavon Austin.
