Cowboys can't get the Secondary right

I heard some talking head state that the Cowboys can never get the secondary right. He sure hit the nail on the head on that one and now Jones is gone. I can't think of the last time we had a strong secondary, probably all the way back to Deon's days.

What is Big Mike's philosophy on the secondary, and how good were they in his Packer days?

It's still a team sport and the better the pass rush the better the secondary.

Bring in a impact DE, cover corner and ball hawk safety and the Cowboys are good.

McCarthy has never been apart of selecting players......according to MM he will be more of the process of selecting players than he ever has in Green Bay.

We wasted a lot of time trying to find Kris Richards type of DB. Especially last draft.

We can tell that he is focused on fixing the defense this year. So at least we have that tidbit of information to put us at peace for now. If we take four defensive players in the draft I'd feel better about his efforts though.

Yea, everybody and their Grandmas have been saying that. The front office just never got it. Hopefully Mike will turn that ugly trend around.

McCarthy has not run a draft in his life. All of the picks while he was with the Packers were done by Ted Thompson, and Brian Gutekunst for one year. It's hard to know what his philosophy was on players because he had very little say in who was selected.

When I responded to your post, I was attempting to convey that McCarthy's Green Bay team routinely selected DB's during his tenure. Ted Thompson, who was the GM (management) at the time, probably got Mike's input.

We are a strong safety. Away from being good. And you’re right we haven’t been great since Dion and Woodson.We keep drafting man coverage cornerbacks . And then we draft zone. And then we put them in the opposite scheme. I think the new head coach will square that away he’ll get the players that fit this game that he wants. Maybe that that alone in itself might help

I think it’s all about the defense of tackles myself. If they can’t push the center back into the quarterbacks face so he can’t step up. I don’t care how good the edge rusher’s are. I guess it just shows you you need the entire defense to work as one. But I don’t need to preach that I know you get it
