What are they going to do this year without Garrett to lead the draft?

Such a game plan to trade down in the hopes of drafting their center of the future in Cesar Ruiz is seemingly a workable plan. The Cowboys' center spot is a valuable spoke in the wheel of making the OL another effective unit within their offensive setup. Let's see how that plan goes, assuming it truly is one. Let's bear in mind that we could obtain extra draft pick(s) for such a deal if it happens. I can see where it might work, if handled correctly.

17. DALLAS. “It’s too high for a center,” said one personnel wag, “but they love the Michigan center (Cesar Ruiz), and they could trade down a few spots and still be sure of getting him.” Interesting: a plug-and-play heir to Travis Frederick.

:dance:This is my guy! I want Ruiz! He'll be the best player available at a position of need. Connor, McGovern and Looney can figure out LG or Swing Tackle.

i don't believe it.
this time of year alot of un-named people know so and so team loves this guy or that guy.
probably eagles f/o stirring crap.
if anything....they seem to love Ou LB Kenneth Murray.

if it is true....I do like Ruiz.
him or the kid from Wisconsin are the 2 best C's in my opinion.
Ruiz would be a solid "get" if they trade down.
this would also mean they're not confident in McGovern...at least at center.

Because it's not possible to field an offensive line that's not made up of all first round picks.

No team has ever had any success without that strategy.
Meeh.. you are describing a philosophy that does not happen to be used by the Cowboys. Only 1st round picks out 5 starters are Tyron 9th, Zach 16th and Frederick 31st.
Travis has retired. Neither Connor not McGovern are first Rd caliber players. If Ruiz is worthy of 17th overall pick then highly likely he'll have a HOF trajectory with this Cowboys Oline recent history.

When we draft for pure need we end up with bad picks. Take Ruiz when you pick if he's the best player on the board overall, not the best C available.

This is how we ended up with Taco Charlton.

Win for a change.

I have been saying draft a center #1 since Beard left.

Yes trade back and pickup value but get the best center available.

Beard was a #1 pick himself.

He was no bargain basement pickup.

People who think the 3rd will be good enough are just dead wrong.

The centers will be long gone by then.

People get too caught up listening to the Mel Kipers of the world.

They are not building a football team. Just their financial bottom line.

Center folks..we already have the glamour players. We must have the best set of muscle up front possible. Looney and Connor ain't it.

If they select a center in the first round. I am going to vomit.

I agree! I'm firmly in the camp of going Defense heavy to a fault. Look at the teams that end up winning championships, the most important thing is defense and our is severely lacking.
As far as I'm concerned if our offense takes another jump even with looney will be more than good. Lets also remind ourselves that Prescott may take another jump up after another off season.
I know we talk about getting the best player on the board, and I think that holds true for first round, but after that I say go ultra heavy on Dt's and CB's... Bottom line is it's time to go heavy on defense for a change and let the chips fall where they may.
