Next we'll get a thread asking why there isn't more Fall Out Boy on Classic Rock stations.
A lot of good conversation and debate on this thread. What are you talking about?

Get off this thread if you don’t like it, and go listen to some Fall out Boy, whatever that is.

Deion was the most over-rated corner ever. Give me Everson Walls over the guy who was allergic to tackling.

I can not stand Deion Sanders but he changed games with his play.

It’s rare to find a defensive player that is that much of a playmaker as well.

I think another guy who doesn’t get enough credit is Ed Reed.. He’s probably the best Safety to ever play.

Not sure. I had to Google to find Fall Out Boy. :D

Anyone who thinks Deion is the only shut down corner in NFL history never watched the NFL in the 70s and 80s.

If I count all the true shutdown corners I've ever seen in my life......

There's only one.

Deion Sanders

Actually, I changed my mind while reading comments on this thread. There has never been a shut down corner in the NFL. Every corner that has ever played has given up receptions and TD’s( if they were a consistent starter).

Deion is the best cover corner of all time. That is more accurate.

I used to agree with that, but in reality even Deion gave up plays now and then. So by the definition of shut down( to stop, to close down, etc), Deion was not a Shut down corner, but he was, in my opinion, and probably yours to, the best cover corner of all time.

It was a rare day that Deion gave up a pass over 15 yards. Only quick slants and quick outs. He'd give them a few, then jump one.

Rarely did he ever get beat downfield, and it typically took a perfect pass to a big receiver to do it. Irvin's push off gave him issues for sure. LOL

Average sized receivers had virtually no chance to get anything meaningful against him.

Isaac Bruce, Tory Holt, Andre Rison, etc, etc, used to talk about how he'd coach them on the way back to the huddle with stuff like, "No, man, when you stutter with your shoulders like this, I know you're going here. You've got to square up and sell me with this leg to get that route."

He literally coached his opponents for entire games.

Deion was the best but not the only shutdown corner.

Green, Bailey, Revis, to name a few. There are plenty more.

Deion was the best cover corner ever, but even he was not a shut down corner. I changed my mind on him being a shut down corner. Think about the definition of shut down: to stop, to close up! No corner can live up to that definition.

Deion got away with grabbing all day.. in today’s nfl he would get called for all kinds of stuff.

Can you imagine if some of these physical corners played in the 90s? There’s been a lot of shut down corners since Deion, come on lol

How do you define shut down. A true shut down corner does not allow a catch. Deion was a great cover corner, he was not a shut down corner!

Deion is the best pure cover corner, ever. Nail it shut. Close the door. Write the check. End of Discussion.
I didn't like his showmanship at first, but he SINGLE HANDEDLY elevated corner into a position of prominence with his showboating, bravado and dancing his way into the end zone.
The two players black kids want to be is Randy Moss and Deion Sanders. Hardly anyone considered corner until Deion came along. Now, urban youth flock to the corner position because of the legacy of Deion. Heck, my son plays college football, and he reveres Deion. And he never saw Deion play, except via video clips.
Hate him all you want, but nobody played the position like Deion and nobody else will play the position like Deion did. Widely imitated, never duplicated.

Then by your standard it’s impossible to be a shutdown corner.

A shutdown corner is a guy you put on the other teams best WR and know they are going to more or less take them out of the game. That doesn’t mean 0 catches.
