Anyone else feel this to be a weak 1st round?

Heavy talent at the top, but I’m only counting 12/13 legit 1st round talents.

The more I think about it the less I think we’re going to get a 1st round grade at 17. This might be one of the best trade back years I can remember.

I think you hope your guy is there at 17 or try to trade out of the first in order to get decent return or try to trade backs twice to get enough draft capital to make sense. What’s available at 23 is going to be similar to what’s there in the 30’s range.

How about the DE from TCU? Can't remember his name, is he a potential at 17 or is that too early?

Too early.
But Blacklock is yet another good player for the 30-35 range.

Do you mean the DT from TCU (Blacklock)?

TCU had a nice DE in 2018 (Collier) who was selected in the 2019 1st round by Seattle.

No problem. Probably an asshat response by me also.
Lol you’re good.

With the Kinlaw news only 1 DT deserving of 1st round considerations Jordan Elliot.
Blacklock might be my #3 option with Kinlaws knees being an issue.

Wouldn't this mean there is less of a chance of a trade back?

If there are 12 1st round grades, 30 2nd and 640 3rd round grades..why would a team give up a 2nd and/or a 3rd for #17?

Let's see, my first round grades would be

QB: Burrow, Tua (hip????), Herbert
RB: -
WR: Ruggs, Jeudy, Lamb
TE: -
LT: Wirfs, Becton, Thomas, Willis
G: -
C: -
DE: Young, Chaisson
DT: Kinlaw (knees, hip???), Brown
LB: Simmons, Murray
CB: Okudah, Hendo (ehhhh...)
S: -

So that's 18 first rounders if all the medicals are all good, 16 if they're not, 15 if you're like me and just really don't care for Henderson mailing in the 2019 season.

16-18 first round grades sounds like a normal year, but when we're picking at pick #17, I can see where the anxiety comes from.

You taking Kinlaw with the injury issues, wasting a pick on a LB, or taking a DT who cannot get after the QB. IMO that brings the list down to 15, and 7 of those from the list are guys the Cowboys will/ should not draft QB's, and OT's.
The one guy I think who has the best upside, and has a chance of being there is Chaisson and IDK if he will be there especially with the Knee news on Kinlaw.

If the league values DJ Reader at $13M a season, I feel very comfortable pegging Brown as a first round talent.

While I'm talking about Brown, I'll also plug this gif of him from Rotoworld because it's so awesome. I don't think Brown's quickness is fully appreciated.

And I'm still on the Murray bandwagon as well. I've seen him comped to Jaylon Smith more than once on here, but 2018 Jaylon was a dangerous player and his instincts weren't great even then. If I can pick a clone of Jaylon with no weird injury issues at #17, I'm fine with that.

That's probably why people are talking about trading back to maybe pick up Ruiz early in the 2nd. It would improve (hopefully) the center position more than they could any other position at 17.
