i know i've heard HC McCarthy make mentioned that the team plans to stay with a 4-3 base scheme, but i also have to wonder if these interests in early round like edge/middle LBs an indication of an "eventual " full time conversion to a 3-4 scheme .. or is it any indication of concern for the health (neck) of Vander Esch?

i'm hearing LSU Chassison, Penn State's Yetur Gross Matos, Wisconsin's LB Zack Baun ... Sooner's LB Kenneth Murray, ..among several others. these guys could easily be deemed as 3-4 edge rushers

..could Murray be an addition to the starting incumbent set.. or a replacement ?

Well ........ lucky for us we do not have any reliable DE's or LB's ......... so the skies the limit.

Those are the only options if a LB is selected. Either they switch schemes or LVE is a lemon

My bet is they are bluffing. They have no intention of taking a lb at all

OU's Kenneth Murray is one of the players in this draft I'd most like to see become a Cowboy, but unless Dallas is transitioning to the 34 defense, I think the pick is used elsewhere.

I doubt they view Smith as negative as on here.

LVE is the real only question mark.

I don't see another day 1 pick at LB. Rounds 3 or 4 on however

-I've heard in Nolan's 4 man front, there will be 3 down lineman and one stand-up rusher. This spot is more of a 3-4 OLB then a traditional 4-3 RE
-XWalker did a nice write-up recently that in the Patriots Hybrid Scheme, they had a lot of big LB packages, as many as 6 on the field
-If Nolan wants to have the flexibility to play any scheme he needs players who can do both.
-Lve had the same injury in college, he should be able to return to full strength
-We just don't know how Nolan is going to use Jaylon, especially on 3 downs

I would hate it to see a traditional off linebacker taken, especially one who offers zero rush abilities.

On LVE.

His agent is the same as Aldon Smith. He talked about LVE on a podcast and said that it's been blown out of proportion. Claims LVE was having issues (stingers) with the neck prior to the game he was "injured" and couldn't use one of his arms when tackling. Said he needed this surgery all along and will be fine.

i think it has more to do with Mike Nolan than LVE...or even a switch to 3-4.

I think it is part LVE health. Part LVE playing terrible before the injury. Part Smith being a clown and playing terrible. Part Lee age. LB is a big need. The top 3 have huge question marks.

could be draft talk. Right now teams are looking at a whole slate of players.

1) Didn't we just sign virtually all of the back-ups to ONE year contracts?... I'm not sure where the mystery lies... we're necessarily going to have a need there.

2) Working theory from where I sit is that the consensus of the new coaching staff believes the major problem last season was less the LBs and more the interior line which couldn't keep O-linemen off of the LBs... thus the free agent signings we've seen happen.

But having said that, the second part to that is that there's enough doubt in that assessment that they nonetheless didn't want to offer anything more than a one year deal to the re-signed LBs.
