Why is Tavon Austin an after thought?

Speed kills if you know how to use it...Give him 4 or 5 plays a game in the right spot and win 3 more games a year.
I am not sure why you guys try so hard to make the dumbest post of the day but you do.

Almost every snap Tavon saw in Dallas was at the expense of better players.
He has marginal hands, no play strength, lacks any size whatsoever and can't beat people with route-running.

But yes he is fast. Or was at 22.

And yet we kept people like lance Lenoir ,
Deion Sanders himself only average 10.4 and 21
10 is good as a PR. 21 is good as a KR. Below 8 and below 19 is very very bad.

Add to that Austin has averaged less than 10 yards a reception in his career. Despite his speed, he has never been a threat

Dont know why you bring Lenior up. He is a practice squad/ST player.

He's had his chances. Just hasn't produced or stayed healthy. He still may be signed by us after the draft.

There’s a world of difference between an 8 yard punt return average and a 10 yard average.

That would be like saying RB1 may have averaged 3 yards per carry, but RB2 “only” averaged 5.

RB1 would be on his way to the CFL, RB2 would in on his way to Canton.

2 yards matters a lot in the world of averages.

he played in 75 of 80 games to start his carrier. over 5 years.

And produced only 4702 all-purpose yards(receiving, rushing, punt returns and kick returns) over those 75 games. That is an average of 62.69 yards per game, which is quite a low figure. He was given plenty of opportunities with the Rams and just wasn't good enough. He could have been a decent 4th or 5th option in Dallas, but can't stay healthy. Even if he were healthy, he just isn't that good. He is not a reliable returner. There is better value out there for a return man and 4 or 5th receiving option. Oh, he also fumbles the ball once every 24 times he touches the ball. That isn't good.

Why can't Dallas use his talents? Crazy.

Why?

what talent? as a WR he is not talented. perhaps he can be in the Olympic 4x100 relay....speed is not WR talent. Jerry Rice ran a 4.6 and he is the best all time WR....

he has been in the league for 7 years. at this point he is what he is. a bit player, with limited ability as a WR, that could at best be used in some situations sparingly.. he has straight ahead speed, but not the size, not the hands, nor the wiggle, and doesn't have much ability to create separation outside of his attempts at go routes so...his best skill is the go route and if that's what he does 75% of the time, then defenses will know that and can easily take him out and neutralize the plays...which they have, since he is not that good in the slot and you can only run so many jet sweeps.....he can't even be used as a disguise to open others..if he is limited like he is....

at this point, not sure what value he brings, since he is also not that good as a returner (at least in the NFL). so not much special teams value. not much value as a top 4 WR. he is a gadget to be used sparingly on some plays and utilize his straight ahead speed.

You don’t accidentally have the career he has had after being a high draft pick.

He’s a gadget space player and not a very good WR.

End around, punt returns, and the occasional down field throw is where he excels.

He’s just not that good..

A great offensive mind got rid of him, if he couldn't use why did jj think that JG could?

Probably because he is no longer a Dallas cowboy. Guy is a free agent and nobody else wants him!

He's just that guy can't put it together. If he gets opportunities, he gets hurt. when he doesn't get hurt, he slips and it costs him a punt return for a TD in a playoff game... Or he fair catches with a wide open sideline. If he is cheap I can live with him as a 5th or 6th receiver/full time return guy. has to be cheap

DAL was badly in need of speed at the time and it was a cheap move to make.
But his impact was negligible and DAL added speed at WR, RB and TE since then.
He was capable of big plays but they were just so few and far between.

he will be a good pickup after game 2 no guarantees IF we have some injury or need at WR/slot etc we can use Pollard in all Austins old roles more now then last season..

Teams don't trust him to stay healthy and his speed makes him a good decoy. That's why he doesn't get many touches.

It was strongly implicated on ESPN Dallas radio this morning that Tavon was a cancer to ST players.

Told younger players to make business decisions with their bodies because the coaches don't care about them. I think that's why he isn't back with the team.

It's the freckled puppets fault that he doesn't trust certain players and they became forgotten.
Then what was the Rams’ Boy Genius’ problem? He had his worst heard as a pro under McVeigh.

not true.. he might have gotten too expensive.. he has the talent.

He's not too expensive. He's just not consistent. Everyone thought he would be able to run circles around defensive backs on this level, but they neutralized his speed with jams and bump and run coverage. When you are a smaller player you have to use your quickness to escape jams and Tavon just can't do that consistently. A smaller player like Cole Beasley is more valued because while he is not as speedy as Austin, he has quick feet and can transition in and out his breaks without giving away where he's going. The wide receiver position is full of intricacies that are needed on the NFL level because the DBs you face each week are on the same level as you.
