If we do not draft J-Jets Jefferson, thoughts on Devin Duvernay as our WR3?

Great hands, deep threat and slot receiver.

Local lad as well.

Could we land him in the 4th or 5th round?

Apologies if there has already been a thread about him but I couldn't find one.

Yeah, I like Duvernay relative to his expected draft position. No guarantee he will be there in the 4th but it’s very possible. K.J. Hill and Van Jefferson are also possibilities at that juncture and I like all of them in the slot.

He's got a slot receiver's build with a boundary receiver's game. It's an awkward fit and leaves him without a natural position. Likewise, he has some outstanding power for his size, but he's too stiff to really put the moves on people, so he doesn't profile as an open-field YAC demon either. It's tough to tell what you do with him as a starting WR3 other than have him run deep patterns out of the slot.

Teams run base 11 personnel like 70% of the time and I just don't think he fits in base. So right there, he's looking like a bottom of the roster guy.

My best guess - he's a Tavon Austin-ish WR4. Different styles of play but similar roles; you feed him a deep shot or a jet sweep once per game and let him handle kickoffs.

Interesting and excellent assessment. Fair.

He has that odd mix in terms of his build and his game.

People are higher on his team mate Collin Johnson but some say he lacks the dog in him despite his size/physical attributes?

I haven't watched any cutups on Johnson, and I'm not a UT fan (graduated from a certain school 2 hours east, actually), so tbh, I've never seen him.

One thing I did just think of with Duvernay is he's a little like Devin Smith. Smith's a straight-line vertical guy out of the slot and was looking pretty good before he got Garrett'ed.

Michael Gallup senior year stats @ Colorado State ---- 100 receptions 7 TD's 1,418 yards

Devin Duvernay --- 106 receptions 9 TD's 1,386 yards

He catches everything. I like players who catch everything. I'm not sure why everyone thinks he's
just a deep threat when 106 receptions proves that he can do way more. He's more of a Michael Gallup then a Devin Smith.

If hes gone and a couple of others in the 4th possibly 5th round I like SMU WR James Proache. I watched him for four years hes got great hands, not a burner but runs very well after the catch. He has a nose for the endzone.

I’d be happy with Duvernay in the 4th or 5th round.

I’d be thrilled with:

Lamb, Jeudy or Ruggs at 17.

Mims, Jefferson or Raegor in a trade down.

Pittman, Hamler or Higgins at 51

Yes I like Devin because he has great hands.

He will likely be drafted in the second round but I also like Michael Pittman Jr - I think I read that he has dropped only 5 passes out of 176 throws! 97% catch rate. Wowsers.

There are sooooo many potentially very good receivers in this draft, like proper game changers.

I really like Gandy-Golden as well. He's like a cross between Dez Bryant and Kenny Golladay!

Chase Claypool as well, he could even be worked into a tight end.

I'm just very exciting heading in to the draft.

At least we all have something to look forward to despite covid-19

If we can get him in the 4th or later, I'm up for it.

In all the mock simulators Duvernay lasts into the 4th round. He has good speed and good hands. My gut tells me he is gone before 123. Dallas will have to trade up in round 4 or even 3 to get him. If they don;t get a WR in 1 then he is an interesting player to target later in round 3.

This is one reason why, if no one is left at 17, a trade down with Minnesota to 25 makes sense. They can pick up two 3rd round picks from the Vikings and use one on a guy like Duvernay. There is value in the 3rd round in this draft.

I'd take Pittman Jr. over everyone except the top 3....

I have a weird feeling the Cowboys might take RB! Well, Clyde Edward-Helaire in the second.
Someone mentioned that Pollard might play the slot, but with Helaire's amazing catch ability, maybe they
draft him and convert him to slot wideout?!
