Best thing about Gallimore is he still has a lot of upside. He was very raw coming out of Canada and was asked to 2-gap at first under idiot DC Mike Stoops. His last year he lost weight, got a better DC, learned the game, and started to produce. You can see the ability in the workout numbers.

This pick points to how little the Cowboys think of Trysten Hill’s potential going forward.

Not necessarily, Poe and McCoy are on contracts structured so the team can cut them after a year if they want. Hill (and Gallimore) is a project, I don't know what happens this year but IMO its too early to write him off because of this pick.

How many times over the years have I seen 'reach' picks for small school 'finds'?

At LAST Jerry seems to have figured it out. 3 big program guys who have big upside and are used to the big stage. Usually we try to find interior DL guys in the 5th round or later the last couple of years. It just hasn't worked out. Happy with this pick!

Why?

Woods is in a contract year for 1/7 of the cost. And actually plays.

McCoy, Poe, Gallimore and Hill.
Are we going to carry 5 DTs? I don't see them giving up on Hill on year 2.

They typically carry 9-10 DL right?

DT - McCoy, Poe, Gallimore, Hill, Woods
DE - Lawrence, Armstrong, Gregory, Smith, Crawford???

Or is Woods looking like the odd man out possibly?

Poe and McCoy are bridge players who may only be with the Cowboys for one season but had Hill not been so disappointing his rookie year I doubt we take a DT in the third round unless the team thought Gallimore was the best player on the board. A second round pick has to be a complete flop not to be able to make a game day roster. The only news Hill made last season was falling asleep in a meeting and being sent home.

The offense was not the problem last year, personnel wise. What I saw costing us games was not being able to stop the other team in crunch time, especially the run game. Looks like Jerry finally realized you need to spend some of those earlier picks on the interior big uglies.

McCarthy is immediately moving to point Jerry at fixing that with a pick like this.

Joe Jackson vs Antwon Woods for the last DT
