Cowboys have 10.5 million in cap space and though they can rework contracts they won't have much left after signing rookies. Hopefully the NFL will rule on on Gregory and Smith soon. Clowney is a dream signing but not for the money he wants.
I've wanted Clowner all along. I don't find him as overrated as most do.

However, cap space can be carried forward, and they may very well need the space next year before they begin to lose players.

The entire secondary is up for renewal and just maybe...maybe...they have a good season, they are good fits in the scheme and we want to keep them.

They can surely do it, but that probably means restructures and mortgaging the future.

Bottom line is Clowney probably isnt worth it at this point.

DE is now crowded. I’d rather let all that work itself out. Go out this week and find some reall competition for Chris Jones and try and swing a deal for a good all around veteran TE. Then maneuver your cap situation to allow for making a run at trading for Adams before the deadline. If they can do those three things, I will start believing they might do something in the playoffs.

Yes, no rush to bring in a vet DE. Way too many on the roster now to compete. If they were planning to bring in Clowney or Griffin, they would have addressed it. Now with Anae in play, they do not need another DE. Even without knowing the status of Gregory and Smith.

I may be one of the few that feel they do not need a vet TE. With Jarwin, as a receiving threat, and probably can be better at blocking, With a new coach, and they have Bell as a blocking TE, that leaves Schultz, so a TE can compete with him, But I just do not see it as a priority right now. But what in the heck do I know. LOL.
But would not be opposed to it, if someone is available for cheap.

As for Adams, a 3rd round next year would be great, but nothing higher. Do you think a 2nd is too much? no way giving up a 1st.

I like the DE Anea quite abit. I honestly think his motor is going to surprise folks. We were lucky to get him late. He should really hav3 went late 2nd to mid 3rd.

Aldon Smith and likely Gregory too will get reinstated. Anae Crawford and the rest of the line can interchange at The other de position if need be. I highly doubt they'll go sign any defensive ends in free agency. Whoever is listed on the team site thats who'll you'll see in camp. Clowney won't be an option

I think Everson Griffen is a better and more durable football player than Clowney but we don’t need either, our DLine is actually loaded.
Loaded? Yeah 2 guys you are counting on might be loaded right now( Gregory and Smith) and a rookie who may be really good, but still a 5th round rookie.

I say sign Griffin for 7-10 million. I think CAP wise we could do it. Smith, Gregory and the rookie are not costing us very much.

DLaw, McCoy, Poe, Gallimore, Randy G, Aldon Smith, Anae, Hill, Woods, Crawford. That’s about as deep as our DLine has been in decades.

Is Clowney backing up Tank? I don't think he fits this team anymore. The Cowboys have plenty of big bodies with punch on the DL. Now they need some twitch and bend.

Not to mention the guy wants twice what he's worth. No thanks. Hard pass.

The Cowboys just aced the draft.

They turned their strength into a greater strenght.

The only spot left in question is an DE opposite Lawerence.

Sure that spot could be Aldon Smith or Gregory, but those two's future is still up in the air. We have some young players and the guy from Utah could be a nice option.

But when looking at the roster, that DE position is the biggest question mark, and luckily for the Cowboys the best remaining FA fits that need. (And if not Clowney, Griffin is still there as plan B).

Also, according to the CBA, the deadline for compensatory picks is 3 PM the Monday following the draft.

So, if the Cowboys can agree with Clowney after 3 pm on Monday, they can add the best available FA on the market, fill their biggest need, and not take away from the picks they gain from losing Cobb, Quinn, and Jones.

Let's get this done.

I always notice that numbers are always missing in posts like this.

Like the $20 million a year that Clowney is looking for.

Or the 0 seasons he's actually gotten double digit sacks.

Or the 3 sacks that he actually got last year.

Or the 1 full season he's played in his 6-year career.

I agree with this. Need to really see what we have in Gregory, which I think is very good. If he doesn't get in trouble for smoking week anymore, there is no reason why he should be playing for us for another 3-5 years.

Aldon is worth kicking the tires.

Myself, I look for the Cowboys to move a current CB to fill at safety..
I can’t see a cb traded with 2 soon to be FA
I get the value of trading Chidobe or Lewis before they leave but that leaves diggs playing lots of reps this year so better be right that he’s ready

I have been wrong before, but I think we are going to go with who we have at DE and probably DT. We have numbers there and some are probably not going to make the 53 man roster. Why add more and cut another?

Gallimore can play some DE too due to his speed in spot situations. I think Gallimore is actually faster than Anae.

It’s not fair to use facts

We have somewhere between 4 to 7 RDE's depending on Crawford's restructure and where you list Jackson and Jelks. I want a veteran swing tackle signed and would be happy giving a pillow contract to a S and TE, but I totally agree on letting RDE work itself out internally.

No, use Chidobe and Robinson as safeties...at least in packages.
