Former Cowboy coaches not fairing well in job market

Reading this thread made me think about the strong message sent to the players that were here last year. New coaching staff, some solid free agent signings, some releases and a killer draft....all of it means that the Cowboys organization is finally making winning the top priority. No more excuses.

It was the timing of those guys getting canned...Richard will have a job next year book it. Alot of staffs were already set. I think if Jerry had his way Richard would have still been in Dallas. We were top 10 defense last year!!

Kitna is also out of the league. Garrett was always in way above his head and if he didn't get respect from Jerry it's due his own blunders. I'm just so so thankful he is gone and that Jerry as much as he wanted to, had no excuse to keep him. I do think that Kitna should've been retained by Dallas. I also think if the corona virus had happened before the Jason firing then that would've been Jerrys excuse to give Jason 1 more year.

I’m guessing he’s not a prime member of the “good ole boys” network

He’s been around quite a while at this point. Under some fairly influential coaches and owners. I’m not sure what the deal was, but he sure had fans fooled when he came with the way he handles himself.

They turned on him pretty quickly, though.

He should have never accepted that "dual DC" role with old man rod.

There is a saying that you cant have two chiefs in the kitchen...…………….its destined to fail, especially when the two are not on the same page.

Garrett should have stepped in and tried to fix it, but he either didnt want to or was not allowed to.

Either way, doesn't matter...…..I'm just glad that joke of a coaching staff is all gone now.

Things will be completely different from here on out.

That's easy too say behind a computer.......its not reality though.

The reality is he didn't do it and now he is unemployed. Be careful who you absolve with that excuse.

Youre right. Fans are crying for him. My poorly stated point is Richard shouldn't have allowed that to happen. If what Frazier said was true JG turned him into another sacrificial lamb. Richard gets put in a tough spot because he doesn't want the rep of being a freelancer who doesn't follow his HCs orders, but instead he's put in the position of being viewed as a poor coach. I think you have to be clear to your higher up coaches, and later to the media your scheme/techniques dont work if you're being undermined. Its a delicate balance for sure, but I believe it best to go down swinging.

You’re misrepresenting that hearsay pretty liberally. Here’s what Frazier reportedly had to say about Richard.

“The biggest problem he believed was how Richard was so very detail focused. He introduced a lot of new tweaks and reads that had to be done right or things broke down. There didn’t seem to be enough teaching or perhaps time to do so for it to come together. Frazier also brought up how Richard relied almost exclusively on Cover 3 and man, when in his first two years the defense had also used a lot of Cover 2 and 4. For those who remember that far back, it was reminiscent of how the very complicated Rob Ryan defense keep coming apart back when he was the DC. Although he wasn’t as sure about this, he also thought that Richard may have had his hand forced in some ways by Garrett or even the ownership in some decisions.”

So, he reportedly believed the biggest issues were all Richard.

Look at it this way:

Since Garrett became coach in 2010, the Cowboys have had 9 first round picks. Of those 9, 7 have gone to the Pro Bowl (only missed were Taco Charlton and Mo Claiborne).

This team has not lacked talent. Will McClay has done his job. The 55.9% winning percentage and 2-3 record in the playoffs lies directly at the feet of one red headed con artist who fooled Jerry into thinking that he was a head coach.

It jus validated that the defensive staff and HC didnt deserve the job they had. Didnt surprise me, Garrett never earned a single thing his entire life. All that left got demoted. Our defensive coaches and head coach have been bad for a very long time.

Would think Richard could get a defensive coordinator position at a power 5 school. He must be trying to stay in NFL.

last I read he was looking for a DC job for a west coast team.

It’s a shame he didn’t want to stay in Dallas.

we could have used his help.

Look at all these ex head coaches on the Cowboys staff, I can’t believe they took a downgrade, we will never get anywhere. There are only so many openings in the NFL,

Just to prove the point how hamstrung this team has been over the years by its coaching. Just about all of the main coaches have taken a step backward since either moving on ore being fired from Dallas

Kris Richard - unemployed
Scott Linehan - unemployed 2019, current passing game cooridinator at LSU
Rod Marinelli - Defensive line coach Las Vegas Raiders
Jason Garret - OC NYG

So, the rest of the league has spoken and all of the above were in positions beyond their capability in Dallas. Explains a lot
Id say they are doing very good in the job market

wrong. It lies at the feet of his boss, Jerry. It was obvious to the rest of the world within the first 3 years that Carrot was a joke. Jerry refused to do anything about it, except keeping him employed for 7 more years.

The only one who isn’t employed is Richard lol. Everyone else you listed is employed.......

The point is that they all took a step backward on the job ladder.

Amazing how many people can't connect dots.
