Not to be the dimming light on the pep rally here, but DiNucci needs to work on using his lower body to drive the ball on his throws downfield. He doesn't have a strong arm at all, and seems to have issues generating power on throws outside the numbers. He's a long shot at best who needs a ton of development and work mechanically.

And, before people start in with but...but....Belichick!, Belichick is the same guy who picked Kevin O'Connell and Ryan Mallett with mid round picks, neither of whom turned out to be anything.
QB is a very hard position to evaluate at the pro level when making projections. The best of the evaluators get it wrong often..so yeah.

Ok after watching this video (much better than the tweet vids by the way) I can see the resemblance between him and Romo/Rodgers. I absolutely loved Romo but this kid has a lot better arm than Tony did when he first started out, not as strong as Rodgers but still strong. He seems to have that effortless looking flick for 40 yards like Rodgers does. I'm rooting for him to do well. I'm rooting for Dak as long as we can sign him to a reasonable deal but if this kid turns out better then so be it.
Yeah I forgot to mention my video was a better highlight reel of him. Yeah, he does seem to make those throws look a little effortless.
I know he is a rookie and will have a learning curve, but so did Romo. Has a good start and hopefully see something come of him.

agree. For as good as he was as a HC..he sucked when it came to pulling the trigger on a QB. He seemed to under value the position when it came to rookies and over valued vets at the same position. If that makes any sense. But yeah, he was just so damn stubborn when it came to that. MM is a flexible guy and the time off helped him re-evaluate his coaching mentality. He is on record stating such. It showed in the draft. He had a plan, didn't hesitate one bit.

His team building was sound other than the QB position. Liked bus drivers. His decision to stick with AFLAC as his QB when he first arrived was his downfall. Then going to old hands like Testicleverde and Bledslow were just aweful. Should have went right to Romo.

His schemes were way over the hill. He was way past his prime when he came here.

yup...and what better than having 1 good QB? having 2 good QB's. I love the potential that Ben has. Cooper Rush may get cut or be relegated to 3rd string.
The problem with dismissing Rush is that none of us has any ideal about how good/bad that he really is. For all of the Rush hate around here, you would think that he hasn’t done very well in games. The problem with that is he has never took a snap during a regular season game. Garrett has several opportunities to let Rush finish games and get experience, but he never let a Rush see the field.

The teams that he built was tough, physical teams. I gotta give him credit for that.

I think like most of us, I was puzzled when I heard DiNucci’s name called. I thought they’d go with Gordon if they went QB, but really I thought they’d pick either Benito Jones or Thaddeus Moss.

But I’ve started to read about Mike McCarthy’s new pet project and people are saying some amazing things about him.

If you read one Cowboys’ article today, read this one.

https://www.bluechipscouting.com/ar...d-a-controlled-play-maker-to-back-up-prescott

Start there. That’s about as in-depth an article that you will ever read for a 7th round pick. Here are some highlights.

About his accuracy..

About his decision making and ability to read defenses...

“He’s very accurate” is what McCarthy said.

I’d say so, 70.9% completion percentage (stats) and boy does he put the ball right on the money. Throws well on the run too.

Did I mention that the kid can scramble away from pressure and get first downs? In 2019 he ran for 569 yards and 7 touchdowns (his o-line wasn’t very good so a lot of the time he was running for his life)

I’ll just leave this last tweet here without comment. :)

thanks for the post. I think he has the ability, the skills, but is a few years away. he is a project. he will get away his first couple of year on ability alone. he will give Rush a run for his money, if he can produce in preseason, given Rush is experienced back up now and this kid is raw to say the least.....I don't think we are going to put him on PS, because he will probably get scooped up. if he shows enough in preseason for us to trust him, then he is replacing Rush, else, he will be the 3rd QB on the roster....

He shows a lot of promise just from his skills in the pocket, accurate passing and quick release. He seems to side arm a LOT however. It is good if he can do that accurately when necessary but he seems to do it too much.

Sure seems to have a lot of skills to work with and a guy that MM would love to try to develop.

Yes, I very much hope he can beat out Rush. If he can serve as a backup for a few years learning under McCarthy, I think he will prove to be very similar to Romo.

I think I could beat out Rush, if he plays like he did last preseason.

Dak better not miss any games or it might be deja vu. This kid is a better fit for McCarthy's offense.

All I want to say about Ben, is I don't see the Romo comparisons! To me he looks like a Rogers clone!

He actually gives me Romo and Rodgers vibe instead of a Romo and Dak vibe. He kinda has that Rodgers swagger on the field.

That's fair. I think he uses his feet a little more than Rodgers, but Rodgers has never been adverse from running when he had a chance. Not saying Romo was adverse to it, but it wasn't his thing. He'd rather pull up and throw before crossing the line of scrimmage since he'd never really just put his head down to run.

DiNucci's numbers show he's pretty adept at running.

Less guaranteed money you mean?

To an extent. The guaranteed money is usually paid out over a shorter term (except the signing bonus). Most players have their first few years of salary guaranteed. It's the cap hit per year that's the concern.

You generally want their cap hit to be low at first and escalate as they get on the back end, especially the base salary. Ideally, when you get to those back-end years, you either redo the deal if they are still playing at a high level or cut them when the base salary is higher than the guaranteed money so that you actually save cap space.

When the Patriots want a late round QB as badly as it sounds like the Patriots wanted him which I believe forced us to draft him rather than risk being able to sign him as a UDFA, you know he's probably a very good QB.

We can trade Rush to NE.
