CW looks chiseled compared to Big Zack or even La’el. Tyron has that same chiseled look...

I do not understand the hate that Connor Williams has had. All in all he actually performed pretty well a season ago, and I see no reason he should not continue to improve. I would agree he might be a better fit at T than G, but don't fall into the trap of thinking he cannot play the position.

My fear going with McGovern & Biadasz is largely the inexperience factor, especially given an unusual off season. That may be an old school approach from me, but you have two players on your oline with no in game experience, lined up right next to each other, and one is going to be expected to make presnap calls. Combine that with virtual training camps, and it worries me.

I don't expect Biadasz to win the starting job until next year.
I think Williams will eventually be a “hit” instead of a miss, but I think he is better suited to OT than G. I think there is a pretty good chance that he is the swing tackle and ends up taking Tyron’s spot at some point.
This post is spot on. I completely agree and what I've been saying for a while now.

Good point on the inexperience of both McGovern and Biadasz.

Coaches will generally try to avoid have 2 OL, especially 2 side by side that have zero NFL experience.

These seem more likely for game 1 than Biadasz/McGovern together:
OC Looney, LG McGovern
OR
OC Biadasz, LG Connor Williams
OR
OC McGovern, LG Connor Williams

While that is undoubtably true, if they are clearly the best players, they may have to go with them and take their lumps early.

I feel the same way. I think this is his year. I wonder if Tyron was to retire what route would they go? Slid Collins to left tackle or Connor Williams to left tackle?

Connor Williams would probably be your LT.

They made the playoffs and won a playoff game in 2018 with Looney starting at OC all season. I'm OK with him staring game 1.

OC Looney and LG McGoven would give CW more time to recover from the injury and would give Biadasz time to acclimate to the NFL.

Some coaching staffs will work a young OL into the lineup. I've seen some coaches give a young OL 1 series per game and I've seen some rotate a young OL with a veteran every other series.

The main thing is that they have plenty of options at this point. When Connor Willliams was rookie College LT converting to LG in the NFL, the Cowboys were out of any other options and had no choice but to start CW immediately.

My ideal scenario is McGovern & Biadasz winning starting jobs out of camp. Here are their sizes:

6'5" 310 (McGovern)
6'4" 315 (Biadasz)

I will admit Connor Williams has become the new whipping boy now that Heath is gone. But what surprised me is Williams size of 6'5" 320 as he appears to play so much smaller. If I wasn't told Williams size and just watched film I would guess he is 6'2" 305.
Each leg and buttocks accounts for at least 80lbs each.

I could see it. I think Collins would have the higher ceiling. And they paid Collins as if they expect him to at some point be left tackle.

La'el does not have the foot quickness of most NFL LTs.

If Connor Williams plays OT, it is likely to be at LT. He has very quick feet.

Yes. The good news is that they currently have lots of options. Who knows how it will go.

In my opinion, I think it was not to William’s benefit to play G, as I believe he is better suited to OT. I also think he would be a better LT than a right tackle due to his mobility being a bigger asset in his case than raw power.

I think he can play RT in a pinch but power rushers will initially give him more trouble than a speed rusher. At least that’s what I hypothesize. Lol.

We definitely have some solid choices for C and LG. McGovern, Williams, Looney and Biadasz are all big nasties. Still pretty thin at T, but got some horses in the shed at interior o-line.
Because we are so thin at T, I look for Williams to definitely get some snaps there in the off season, enough to prepare him to possibly be the back up swing tackle. If Smith or Collins goes down, our best 5 will include at least 2 of those 4 G/C's. One at G and one at T.
With current rosster guys as Hyatt, Knight and Miller; it's pretty clear Williams is the best option at back up T.

As for starter at C, I think this year will most likely be between Looney and McGovern (probably Looney because of experience).
Williams will still start at LG. The book ends at T are a lock. And of course Martin isn't getting moved from the RG spot, literally.

*Prediction:
Biadasz will be labled by some a possible bust because he didn't follow directly in the beard's footsteps and start at C.
But the truth is those guys will have the edge on him due to NFL strength and experience. Give him a year to catch up and it's gonna be a fight next off season.

Yes. I totally agree. I can’t see Collins playing LT and I can’t see Williams playing RT as effectively as Collins.

Connor Williams was very good in 2019. He was not in peak form until about game 4, but from game 4 up until his injury he played really really well.

He was excellent in picking up and handing off pass rushers on stunts and blitzes.

He was excellent at 2nd level blocking.

He didn't make many mistakes after about the first 3 games.

Fans want to see Larry Allen power blocking but in the modern NFL power blocking has become less important than precision blocking.
- For example, when La'el played LG, he was very powerful, but he made way too many mistake and was not technically sound.
- CW in 2019 was at LG than La'el was when he played that position.

Broadcast game footage is not "film". It's only "film" if you pay for the coaches film.

CW likely played at about 310. Young players that have bulked up since college often lose some weight during the season.

You really are not paying attention if you think CW looks like he is 6-2.

It's a similar trade off between Williams and McGovern as it was with Williams and Sua-Filo. Williams has less power and anchor, but better movement and pass blocking.

One thing about Williams - he started young. He'll be 23 in May. McGovern will be 23 in Nov. Young olinemen reliably get significantly stronger, but they don't as reliably significantly improve their movement skills.

Williams will keep getting stronger, but McGovern probably doesn't improve his movement skills

I don't think it would have to do anything regarding strength with Biadasz vs Looney. I think it would have more to do with making the line calls and understanding defensive fronts to make the proper adjustments before the snap of the ball.

Looney doesn't have as much advantage as a veteran normally would. New coaching. And if it's anywhere close, Biadasz is going to get the push. He's young, improving, and the future.

I hope Tyron Smith has a lot of years left, but his back problems worry me. If he's out after a couple seasons, I could easily see the o-line looking like this:

LT- Connor Williams LG- Connor McGovern C- Tyler Biadasz RG- Zack Martin RT- La'el Collins

The Cowboys could also decide to flip Collins to LT and go with either Williams or even Brandon Knight on the right side. In short, they are covering themselves long term on the offensive line and I love it.

Not sure if it's mentioned, but Williams' jersey number makes him looks smaller. Dunno why he took 52 or whatever it is. Numbers in 70s just make the guys look bigger. That sounds dumb but there's something to it..
