Says that Fassel feels “really good” about punting situation. I’m not seeing how Chris Jones’s performance was scheme or coach based, seems to me like he’s physically declined. Only thing this team has done that’s irked me this offseason.

You would think they would have learned their lesson after not bringing in fg kicker competition last training camp. Ugh

I just posted this in the other Jones thread. Important to keep this in mind.

2019 season
Jones suffered an important decline in productivity, averaging 41.6 gross yards and a 37-yard net average per attempt. Both stats were the NFL’s lowest. At the end of the season, it was reported in the media that he played through a back and sports hernia injury.

No reason to believe he won't bounce back once fully healthy. But I completely support the idea that he needs competition and at least one additional punter need brought in.

That's my feeling. If Jones is going to be the punter, fine, just give him some decent competition in case last year is the new norm for him.

Mystifying, but perhaps Fassel appreciates his trick play capacities over his pure punting skills.

Jones has been pretty good in that regard over the course of his career.

That's such a minute part of his impact that it really shouldn't factor in though.

Sounds like Jerry is handling this one.

At least next year we will have two veterans given guaranteed money though.

Tell me, if he was hurt last year, why wasnt he placed on IR? He was killing the team.

Of course, Jerry did say..."just because the kicker misses field goals doesnt mean you replace him."

So by the same logic....

This makes sense, for the first time in history I just looked up the stats of a punter and Jones had his average drop three yards last year, and it was the first time in seven seasons his average was below 44 Yard (at 41.6)

"Feels really good" isn't a particularly convincing phrase, and indeed, is more of a throwaway line from where I sit.

They will bring in some competition to camp, as practically every team does every year.

And they will still be able to say they "feel really good" after they do that, even while we will all be analyzing just how strong a candidate they bring in. The guess from here is that they have a short list that is helping them feel really good about the punting situation, and that there will be someone on that short list that emerges as a viable challenger.

You can really tell people are bored when they are screaming for another punter be brought in for competition at this very moment. Don't wait for tomorrow or camp, do it now! Hahaha!

Jones was solid under Bisaccia. He was hurt last year and also was coached by the dumpster fire that was Keith O'Quinn. Now that he has another actual ST coach like Fassel, I think he goes back to normal. If Fassel wanted him gone, he'd be gone a long time ago!

That's certainly how it looks at this point.
