This sounds very Positive. I hope he gets a chance to prove that he changed.

If he really is that fit and gets the Football Part of the Game back he could be a huge improvement for our D.

""We had him on these resistance cords connected to the wall on a machine called the Raptor. I’ve had a ton of guys on it — big huge guys, monsters. Smith ripped it off the wall ... No one has ever done that. He is an absolute freak of nature. I don’t know who to compare him to because he’s 287 with a V. It’s ridiculous.''" - Jay Glazer

I know he is 30 but we shouldnt forget that he didnt play for almost 5 years which means his body in terms of wear and tear of NFL Pounding is only 25.

If he and Gregory get reinstated and have turned around we should have one of the best D-Lines i the NFL

Jay Glazer is a fat elf of a man and I refuse to take his word for who is in shape. The commish needs to reinstate this man so he can come to training came and prove himself worthy to continue his NFL career. I think he can do it but I need to see it.

His bond with the NY vet group is a great thing to hear about. It hits close to home for me. I hope he finds a vet group in Texas to bond with, that would be a great behavior to continue once he relocates.

Meh, as with Gregory, wait and see if they get a legitimate chance and then evaluate them. Not massively hopeful for either of them. Anae on the other hand is a prospect I am excited about.

Anything they can get from Smith is gravy. Hope he truly has his life in order.

Here come the FLUFF pieces...

If he gets reinstated... and can keep himself active to off field concerns that’s when I’ll congratulate him.

Until then this is just his agent and friends fluffing him up

Good post about the not taking the NFL pounding.
As I say the "NFL football shape" is a bit of a myth. People always say, yeah, but he hasn't played in 1 year, 3, 5 or what ever. But as you said, they have not taken the brutal pounding either.

My theory on players being out for awhile. If they keep themselves in great shape, an also hit the sleds and tackling dummies. Then that is what TC is for. To get in "football shape". As most players except for the playoff team will not have played for almost 7 to 8 months for when TC starts. College players since the end of November except a bowl game. The PS games, if played, which Garrett refused to do, that should get them somewhat used to the speed of the game again. And then it should not take them that long, even if a few games into the season. But most players are in that same category.

If / when re-instated, I pencil Gregory and Smith in as starters / top rotation players immediately.

Or is this what the oriental girl was doing with Robert Kraft in Florida?

I will say this both Gregory and Smith come in with a lot to prove not only to the team but to themselves. I fully expect to see both come in highly motivated to take advantage of this opportunity. In terms of production I have no expectations pro or con I just want to see them out on the field then go from there.

Like all behavior, athletic performance starts in the mind. It does not matter how supremely gifted a physical body is-- without a sound mind to govern and harness it correctly-- an athlete will be unable to reach their full potential.

IF-- big if-- Smith now has a sound mind and has learned to harness and discipline his body, focus his will, and has found renewed motivation-- he can succeed. He still has to overcome the obvious rust of being away from the game for 4 years, and the fact that athletic abilities are perishable skills-- BUT he would have no chance to succeed if he was unwilling to get his mind right.

At least he come this far. I am rooting for the guy to succeed. Sure-- it would be nice for the team-- but more than that-- I love seeing people come back and overcome themselves, and change the narrative of their careers from something negative to something positive.

I wish Aldon all the best as he gets back up on his feet and goes after his goals. "The righteous man falls 7 times, but rises again"

he is a gamble that doesnt' cost anything and only has upside. I am not counting much on him. size, speed, at this point don't matter, since he has been out of competitive NFL football for 3 years. its hard to make comebacks like that....this is not the same Aldon smith that we knew of.....you will lose your timing, your instincts, your reaction, the innate ability to counter moves, etc.....those will diminish when you are away....so tampering our expectations is necessary. if he makes the roster, that's a huge plus. if he gets a few plays here and there, that's a big plus. if he gets one sack, he has made great strides....

by the same token, it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't make the roster.

There's no reason to not take this risk on him but................ he should be viewed as a luxury, not a necessity. Unfortunately, I think the front office is counting on Smith and Gregory to solve the RDE spot and I think that's a really big risk when you have three pass rush options out there in FA that might help mitigate some risk.

People are pointing out that while he's going to be 31, Smith doesn't have a lot of wear and tear on him. Maybe so, but he's also not played football for 4 years and regardless of how much wear and tear you didn't go through, 4-5 years away from football and contact is a big thing to overcome.

Also, Smith played at like 255 lbs when he was wrecking teams in that stretch from 2011-2013. He's now 287? Regardless if that's muscle or fat or whatever, he's now trying to play at a weight that's 30 lbs more than when he was killing teams and he's trying to do that at age 31. The odds, IMO, of this working out significantly well for Dallas isn't great.

But they should still take the chance on him, absolutely.

It's been said lately that Aldon Smith has a better chance of being reinstated than Randy Gregory. It seems that makes Aldon our best bet to receive that honor. Apparently, Randy is still in Goodell's doghouse, so claims the media. It's likely not wise to count on him getting reinstated anytime soon.

Aldon, reportedly at 287 lbs., has his work cut out for him if he's destined to return to his best playing weight. Hopefully, Goodell might see fit to cut him loose from suspension sooner than later.
