Watch Byron Jones get 5 picks next year.
Brandon Carr used to intercept passes until 2014. I think he intercepted 1 pass in his final 3 seasons here. Then he left for Baltimore and started intercepting passes again. I’ve been curious how the coaching change impacted his ability to intercept passes.

really when you look at the secondary last season they did not give up a lot of TD passes (21) tied for 8th nor did they give up a lot of yards 223 pg (10th) but in my view because they played safe keeping plays in front of them giving too much cushion they were seldom in a position to make the int. Dallas was tied for last with 7 ints on the season. I do think having a secondary that will gamble a bit will lead to more ints in turn you also can give up bigger plays in the process

Seems like defensive scheme was always the problem in the Garrett Era, even after replacing DCs and DB coaches. Garrett was clueless in building a staff

Actually he was quite the genius at building his staffs. He always hired coaches he knew he could use as scapegoats to save his own ***. Any quality assistants would have exposed his "process" for the BS it was.

KRichard ran the cover schemes.

but Marinelli/Garrett ran the teams defense.

Every team figured out that jacked scheme Marinelli ran.

Don't get too hyped up on Mike Nolan's scheme. He's a journeyman.

Agree.

I see people praising Nolan on here. Totally clueless.

He hasn’t had a DC job since the 2012-14 disaster in Atlanta.

good thing he is big buddies with MM.

Because he was responsible for the Legion of Boom, even though that secondary was picked by Carroll, his forte in D. And then Carroll tried to talk him into staying as the DC but he was having none of that, rather be a secondary coach in Dallas.

The Richard love and any Linehan love will always be a mystery to me. Posters were afraid Richard would go elsewhere, I was afraid he wouldn't.

because he created the LegionOfBoom and has a ring.

maybe that could be the reason.

Those of you who don't know Clay Mack, he's a big-time DB coach/trainer based in DFW. He said he doesn't think its a personnel issue with the backend. He said when he trained the Cowboys DBs in the offseason the coaches were forcing them to do only one technique instead of coaching to their strengths.

Surprise surprise...

More evidence of the poor poor coaching our players have had to try and overcome for a decade

The Autopsy on the Garrett Coaching staff 2013-2019 will be brutal. Kris Richard and Marinelli chemistry. Linehan and rigidity debacle...scheme fit philosophy.

So painful

I think the issue with JG is that JJ rushed him to be a coach with out much experience. and JG took the job underestimating the complexity of being a head coach.JJ later realized his mistake but after it cost us 10 years and some good players.

Not what I am saying. Last year Cowboys gave up 300 yards 3 times during the season. Cowboys did not get burned a lot in the secondary but because of the style they played they were never in position to make ints. Secondary seem more intent on not getting beat down field that they allowed team to work the shorter routs and never able to come up with the big turnovers. Overall Dallas ranked 11th in points allowed but again they did not get critical turnovers in games. It was like playing safe not playing aggressive.

Agree. Seemed like BBDB on steroids.
