Can't complain about the starting 3, but it's very easy to imagine being without Lee and LVE.

This scares me. How much of a concern is this?
Very much a concern.

It seems like every year we wanted to replace Lee and never really figured it out.

For as long as it lasted, Wolf Hunter was stellar. Now, he too is a rubber raft in a big, deep blue sea of concern.

I would like to see us sign what's his name from GB..

You know..blondie, long hair..can't remember his name.

Sign him yesterday. Start him with Lee, Hunter and we have something to cheer for.

Almost identical to Chaisson bio other than 40 time, just 5/10 slower...
MM will find a way to try and keep Jelks and Joe Jackson,,
We got a logjam out there, and it's not like they are devoid of talent. I dont understand the desire to add Griffen.

I'm not sure how they will utilize that stand up rush position, and how that may affect how many DE, or DE/LB types they may keep.

I can say I'm excited about the possibility of Smith, Anae, Jelks, and maybe the JMU guy in that role.

Should be able to show a ton of looks full of guys with rush skills if they so choose.

i'd like to see what this staff can get out of Chris Covington.

Luke Gifford looks promising.

DT Dontari Poe should make life a little easier for our LBs.

No, it's a strength.

There's only two starters now, which will be LVE and Jaylon. Not many teams have as good of depth as Lee and Joe Thomas.

Based on everything the coaches have said, the SLB will be very different from last year. I would not expect Lee to play there at all. Remember, this is no longer the Rod M. 4-3 defense you probably played in high school.

Off-ball backers - (MLB and WLB) - Smith, LVE, Lee, Thomas, March, Covington, Benard

SLB/DPR - Anae, Gregory, Jelks, and Gifford (this is the spot he played at Nebraska, and had a good senior year playing that spot)

It is possible that Smith moves to SLB, which would weaken the off-ball spots, but if LVE is good to go, then Lee and Thomas are both capable starters and we have depth there.

I would not be surprised at all to see one more vet brought in to the SLB/DPR, especially if Gregory is not reinstated. Golden played that role for New York last year and did quite well and Matthews played that role for McCarthy in GB.

Dont want Golden now that NYG slapped the UFA tag on him so we have to for-fit a comp pic

The concern isn't with the depth. It's with the starters. Jaylon and LVE both took a big step back last year. On top of that, LVE is coming back from surgery. What looked like a strength heading into the 2019 season now looks like a trouble spot.

I mean if any team loses two LBs depth is going to be a concern

True.

The problem is Lee has rarely stayed healthy for long, and LVE now has a history of serious spinal issues- a real problem for a linebacker!

In terms of LB play I’m not worried. The ST contribution is a bit worrying though. We have too many LB’s that don’t play ST.

LVE
Jaylon
Lee
Thomas

Those four are as good as it gets in the NFL (if LVE and Lee are healthy).

I think Bernard latches on. Just a hunch. Maybe Gifford makes the team.

I’d love if we picked up Clay Matthews for cheap. He had 8 sacks last year. Would be nice in a limited role. History with McCarthy.
I think this in inevitable

I don't think there's any such thing as minor spinal surgery- especially for a LB who has to face a RB at full steam or a second level O-Lineman.

Hope I'm wrong, but I'll be shocked if LVE lasts much longer in this league. His career could end on any play.

The Marinelli defense was a base 4-2-5. They played 4-3 less than 30% of the snaps.

In that defense, having Lee and Joe Thomas as the 3rd and 4th LBs is better talent at those spot than average.

The answer is known with regards to the new Mike Nolan defense.
- He plays a multiple front defense and has often used 3-4 type of alignments, however,,,
- He might use a DE like Randy Gregory at OLB.
- Also, Anae is either a DE or pass rushing LB.

We really don't have a certifiable mlb on the team. It's not lee. Not jaylon. LVE remains a big question mark.. hope we get it figured out.

Jaylon's health looks iffy to me too. Got worse as the year went on.

I like our LB *depth*. Like Joe Thomas. Don't like our injury risk. But it is what it is.

Is the linebacker position an area of concern?? Depends if Limpy, Gimpy and I'm in Pain stay healthy.

Honestly no concern for me at all, I like Thomas and Gifford could be a bigger steal than we think. We are only going to carry 6, so yeah if you want someone to compete with Covington and March for the special teams role go for it (I like Bernard). But there’s really not much room for anything other than the bottom of the unit.

I know there are health concerns but you’re not gonna go with 8 LB’s cause Lee and LVE have injury history. 6 spots, and I think 5 are already set in stone and it’s fine with me. Don’t understand the rumbling about LB when there’s really only one downroster ST spot available.

Forgot about Gifford. Pulling for him to surprise people again in Camp.

Anybody else worried about the depth of the OL?

If Smith, Martin, and Collins go down..it's pretty bare back there

At OT I am worried. I think we have excellent cover at guard. Only one of McGovern, Knight, Looney, Badiasz starts at centre.

Low probability scenario you outline.

On the other hand, it would be almost surprising if Lee stays healthy, and LVE is coming back from spinal surgery!
