Charles Haley and it’s not close
No one player can make a whole defense play up to their ability like he could
Mostly because he was crazy and guys didn’t want to piss him off lol

Except for Roger. Roger was the better QB.

I disagree. Roger was really good. And when it came time to win the game, and they were behind, Roger could lead the team. But the difference between the SB era of Roger and the SB era of Troy was the 92-95 Cowboys didn't play from behind nearly as much as the 70's Cowboys. It was like the 70's Cowboys were waiting for Roger to pull it out.

Obviously Witten, Frederick and Ware but if we are talking players from the "past". Ive always been a huge Darren Woodson fan. He was aggressive when he played and they literally have NFL rules based on him.

Aikman is less accurate than Dak. And he won't have a Norv Turner offense to lean on.

Myself I say a prime Deion. The man was unreal.

Watch that early/mid nineties offense and say that again with a straight face. Aikman had pinpoint accuracy.

This is a fun exercise and thought it might make a cool debate.

If you could bring back one past player from the Cowboys and inject him into this year's team in his prime for this season only, who would it be?

As I mulled over the question, a lot of guys came to mind. I thought about the QBs of the past and while I would love to see Aikman's surgical accuracy with this team, I don't think we gain that much improvement.

I would love to see Michael Irvin back, but WR is already a strenght.

There are a lot of great linemen in Cowboys' past, but our line is already good.

So for me it came down to four possibilities:

Charles Haley
Demarcus Ware
Darren Woodson
Deion Sanders

And I decided on Sanders. I know we added a lot to the QB room, but I think Sanders locking down one side of the field would be lot of fun to watch.

Erik Williams in his prime.

I followed his entire career. I still have tons of games on my old vhs tapes. How pinpoint was that accuracy when #88 or #22 didn't play? If Dak is gonna get shredded by fans here for missing throws, have that same standard for 'he has no faults' Aikman.

Troy 165 games, 165 tds/141 int's.

Roger always worked extremely well w/ a running game.

Aside from height, Roger was better in every facet. Nothing against Aikman, Roger was just that good.
Sounds good to me! After all Roger was responsible for me being a Cowboys fan.

Larry Allen, Eric Williams, Bob Lilly, Bob Hayes, Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Deion Sanders, Charles Haley, Jason Witten, Travis Frederick or Stepnowski, Woodson, Emmitt, Demarcus Ware, Michael, Beasley, Too tall, Harvey Martin, and so on. I’ll think of more later. Any one of these guys, in their prime, would help.

With as many Hall of Famers as the team as had, it's a toughie.

I think Staubach was on a different level than Aikman as an individual player. He retired with a higher passer rating than Aikman in spite of playing most of his NFL career in that sport's dead ball era, AND he was more mobile.

The one guy I'd look at outside the Landry or Johnson eras would be DeMarcus Ware. His Super Bowl run in Denver proved he wasn't where the loser stink was coming from on those Cowboys teams he played with.

Great QB's get penalized by statistics. Even when a guy isn't open they will put the ball in a spot to give a guy a chance to make a play rather than throw it 10 feet over his head and out of bounds so it counted as a throwaway.

Aikman knocked coke cans off players heads with his pinpoint accuracy. He was known his entire career as being one of the most accurate QB's to ever play.

How about Clint Murchison, jr., Tex Schramm, and Tom Landry?
