The Dez Bryant Comeback In Dallas was likely dead several seasons ago despite whatever hopes Bryant may have carried (or may still carry). More importantly, this should prove to be the final nail in the coffins of Bryant Comeback fans worldwide.

However, it should be fully understandable if some fans still cling to the hope Bryant makes a comeback as a tight end.

Well, put me on the list of people who wont be buying that tired old 88 number with Lamb on the back.

10 would have been cool.

On the off chance that MAYBE this affects Lamb in the slightest it wasnt worth it, but Jerry is so wrapped up in his own ego he cant see it.

Guy makes me sick, and he always will.
Has anyone here ever played a sport? For those that have, did you ever run a pass route, or prepare to make a tackle, or step into the batter's box, or drive to the basket with the number on your uniform nagging at you in your mind? Folks here are making way too much of this. Sure people have number preferences, but I doubt Lamb is experiencing anything close to the angst that posters on this site are.

It's not even about what other WRs wear. It's about doing something selfish with no benefit to the team. It's about making something entirely insignificant a point of contention. If Lamb doesn't want to wear the #88 then don't make him wear #88. Forcing it on him is a level of pettiness for the sake of personal gratitude that you can't even begin to measure.

“CeeDee, my dead friend used to like the Joe Thiesman one-bar facemask. Would you wear the one-bar facemask in honor of my dead friend?”

I don’t care..

Someone should do it..

People want a player that plays for the team and his teammates. Dez cared about the Cowboys more then anyone including people running this thing.

Was he a little rough around the edges and a headache at times? Yeah..

But a lot of the Dez “drama” was fans on this forum being suckers for whatever narrative the media wanted to point them to that day.

He’s the all time leader in TD catches and he went through a slump by his standards when we switched to a young QB and a run 1st offense and now people want to hate him.

Im also not ok with celebrating Witten as he goes out the door and welcoming him right back and then completely shunning Dez and not giving him a 2nd opportunity.
On top of all that..

he left for Las Vegas and now people say he was dead wood and better gone.

Bet he has one of his biggest years this year.

Watch.

Yeah I agree about Dez. I am afraid that dream of him returning left with Lamb's arrival.

It’s clear you haven’t.

Jersey numbers are personal things for most athletes (from amateur beer league softball to professional sports).

Everyone will be happy besides Cowboys fans and the actual player wearing the jersey.

This is a horrible look for Jerry Jones and I can not believe they went through with this.

I dont think its a bad look at all. CD will wear it well.

Why quote me? And yes I have.

If anything I pointed out that it probably doesnt affect Lamb.

I'm pissed that Jerry cant leave it alone and let the player pick.

And players buy numbers from others all the time. Others give up numbers out of respect.

Not sure how you can say it definitively isnt a big deal when it seems to be one to plenty of players.

It does seem to add some pressure that just didn't need to be there. Constant talks and comparisons and living up to a number. I get the gesture for a friend but I don't see this helping matters. A non issue, becomes an issue. For what reason? Another distraction. A very unnecessary one.

Jerry I’m sure informed him that players get a % of their jersey sales, So CD is likely to make more greebacks with 88 vs 10.

Wear it for rookie season change to 10 then kill jersey sales back to back

Disagree.

I think the people that already own Bryant/88 will be less likely to buy Lamb/88 than Lamb/10.

Yeah, for every person that is saying that they won’t buy the 88 jersey... there are probably two people who will buy it for that reason.

You could give Lamb any number and fans will buy it because they are excited about him and want to show their support of him.
It's not about Jerry The Marketer wanting to market the player for more jersey sales. Tons of people who normally would buy a jersey of a 1st round WR pick like this will hold off because they have a fairly recent 88 jersey in their closet and they cant justify the expense of buying a new one just for a different name on the back just yet.

Honestly, Jerry isn't as obsessed with jersey sales as people want to pretend. If he was, he'd change/redesign our uniform and jerseys way more often. Give him credit for this, he's resisted the easy money he'd make just by drastically changing our jerseys.

So if it's not about Jerry marketing the kid for jersey sales, what's he marketing? It's about Jerry marketing the job he's doing as a GM. Handing out 88 to a new receiver and having that guy blow up is all about him wanting people to give him credit for finding the next great 88 and building the core of a new dynasty. (Sometimes I think he forgets how much of the '90s dynasty's success was owed to our defensive ferocity. He just remembers the hype of the triplets, so he thinks stocking the cupboard at QB-RB-WR means he's built a new Super Bowl team and he's done his job.)

What’s more surprising to me is that people apparently thought CeeDee would end up in #10 after Jerry publicly said he wanted him in #88.

This is a marketing decision. It was never going to be the player’s preference.

For my part, I put jersey numbers along with uniform changes as “things I just don’t care about.”
