Why quote me? And yes I have.

If anything I pointed out that it probably doesnt affect Lamb.

I'm pissed that Jerry cant leave it alone and let the player pick.

And players buy numbers from others all the time. Others give up numbers out of respect.

Not sure how you can say it definitively isnt a big deal when it seems to be one to plenty of players.
I went to Catholic school, I was never given the choice of uniform that I could wear...Not that I can recall at least. Owners Own, Players Play...And everything is right with the world once again.

The hysterical part is Jerry Lamb probably thought Jerry Jones was an ********.

The only problem I have with this is if it comes out later and Ceedee says 88 wasn’t his choice. Can’t wait for that interview and question (and you know it’s coming).

Terrible in so many ways.

He doesn’t want to wear it.

It won’t look as good as 10.

It’s still too soon to give someone that number and they disrespect Dez again.

Nothing about this sits right with me.

I doubt Jerry MANDATED that he wear it. Jerry may have talked him into it. It wouldn’t be that hard to do.

Why won’t it “look as good”? Isn’t that a matter of taste/opinion?

Too soon, to let someone else wear it? Disrespected Dez again? Laughing!!

Seriously? Dez has been gone for YEARS now. You guys need to get over the fact that Dez is not going to be a Cowboy again, maybe other than signing a one day contract to retire a Cowboy.

This move sends a strong signal that the Cowboys DO NOT intend to bring Dez back, or at least if he comes back that he is NOT the top dog anymore and that he is nothing more than a low level scratch off lottery ticket.

I LOVE this move. I’m doing cartwheels over here. Kudos to Jerry. It’s like a cherry on top of this great draft. Excuse me now so I can go bask in the glory of this for a little while.

In the very unlikely event that Dez comes back (he won’t) and he acts right (very doubtful) and has learned to run routes (very doubtful) and he actually kicks butt and takes names (almost not even worth mentioning) I will cheer at his success because he is a Cowboy and I am about team first. But the odds of that happening are only slightly better than me guessing all the powerball numbers at the next drawing.

Has anyone here ever played a sport? For those that have, did you ever run a pass route, or prepare to make a tackle, or step into the batter's box, or drive to the basket with the number on your uniform nagging at you in your mind? Folks here are making way too much of this. Sure people have number preferences, but I doubt Lamb is experiencing anything close to the angst that posters on this site are.
I agree with you. But it's important to the owner to have a player wear a certain number? Its that mindset embarrassing to me. Its just a number. Let the man choose his number.

It’s clear you haven’t.

Jersey numbers are personal things for most athletes (from amateur beer league softball to professional sports).
lol - you're wrong about me, and your post didn't even make sense. I didn't deny that players develop a desire to wear a particular number, I said the number isn't going to determine how well they do their job.

Assuming you did play a sport, answer the questions I asked? Did you run pass routes, or prepare to make tackles or step into the batter's box, or drive to the basket, or do whatever your sport demanded with your jersey number at the front of your mind?

If you did, you sucked. Players don't get to the level CeeDee Lamb has if they cannot perform to their ability because they are so overcome with worry about tings that should not affect their performance.

Besides, realistically not every college player comes into the pros getting the number they want, just as not every high school player goes into college getting the number they want. Often the preferred number isn't even available. What do you expect players to do? Panic? Mope?

Because it’s too soon and the player doesn’t want the #.

Too soon for what? It’s too soon for you to accept Dez probably isn’t coming back. That is really what this is about.

I mean that’s ok. You are entitled to how you “feel” and your “opinion” just like everyone else here. But man isn’t that being a bit too sensitive getting all hurt over that, as an adult?

True, you got players, even on our team jumping from one number to another. So if he was forced, why hold him to a double standard? That would piss me off.

Is the board REALLY up in arms about what # he should wear?

I shudder to think what this place will be like if the season is delayed.

Granted, you weren't the most appropriate person to quote because you made much less of the number change than some have. My apology for that.

And yes, players do sometimes buy numbers, and sometimes they have to change numbers. It can go either way, and players go on and play the game either way.

Besides, I didn't deny players have a number preference, and in fact specifically acknowledged that they do. I merely said they aren't going to be less of a player if they don't get that number preference.

If Jerry wanted to the right thing by #88 he should just retire it. For his friend and all the #88s who wore them.

How long is the Dez mourning period supposed to last? Is 2 years not long enough? Does it need to be 5? 10?

It is just a freaking number. Who cares?

The Dez Fan Bois will be mourning Dez forever. They will be talking about a comeback ten years from now.

That point I can agree with. But I also wonder if Lamb really cared that much. If he did, that's Jerry's bad. If he didn't, it's not a big deal.

I hope Lamb goes on a #88 display tour. As a matter of fact I think I’ll screen print a few shirts of Lamb pointing at the back of his 88 jersey with both thumbs. (Over his back). Who wants one?

He doesn’t need to earn the number.. That is silly.

He just shouldn’t have it forced on him.

88 on him was a bad choice if for no other reason then it just won’t look right.
It will too me. What exactly did Dez win in that jersey? If anything he didn’t live up to the number that Michael Irvin had since he didn’t win 2 superbowls wearing it.
