If Jerry wanted to the right thing by #88 he should just retire it. For his friend and all the #88s who wore them.
The Cowboys don't formally retire numbers. They never have. I don't think many teams do. There are only 100 numbers, and positions have restrictions on what numbers they are allowed to wear, so if retiring numbers happened much that could become a problem. That's what the ring of honor is for - it's in lieu of retiring nimbers

I sure hope that this act indicates closure to the very ill advised Act #2 of resigning Dez the first time and him stealing money from Jerry (failing to perform up to his contract).

I don't at all think in the slightest of bits that the number shouldnt be given out because of Dez Bryant. He wasnt at that kind of level.

My thoughts dont at all go past Jerry bullying a rookie into wearing a number for his own agenda.

That's just ridiculous. It really is. There are plenty of ways Jerry can honor his friend. He doesnt have to involve forcing a player to be involved.

So Lamb gets number 88 well (almost) every player that has worn that number in Dallas has had a lot of success lets hope that continues!

So you’re telling me, we could have another #8 and #22?

This was the FO’s chance with Jerry’s heartfelt story to honor his late friend to nail the door shut on the Dez reunion without hurting Dez’s feelers by coming out and saying they are not interested in bringing him back.

Yes. Most, except Dez after getting paid. Show him the money, he shows you how to slack it.

Noooooooo, you don’t moron.

Where did I claim Lamb’s jersey number affects his performance?

Be specific. Quote me.
You apparently aren't following your own posting.

I made the point that players don't worry about their numbers when they are running pass routes, or preparing for tackles, or stepping into the batter's box, or driving to the basket …

You're response is that I was wrong because numbers are very personal to players, so for you to say I was wrong you have to be saying their number affects their performance. If their number doesn't affect their performance how would what I said be wrong?

Here's my opinion on the jersey number that Lamb should wear, first off he doesn't want to wear #88, so let the guy wear his number of choice (#10). I personally think that the #88 shouldn't be worn by anyone for a while because of the expectations that come with that particular number with the Cowboys.
So if he wears #10 then expectations will be lower? My expectations of the top WR in the draft are sky high. It makes no difference if he wears #10 or #88 in that regard.

Why do people always assume the worse? Lamb did say he wanted 10 but then again he wasn’t gona come out and say I want 88. I feel he wasn’t gona go that way specially with all the dez rumors lately. He probably talked to Jerry and Jerry offered it. Lamb happily took it.

Technically we could, but so far they have not used 12, 74, 8 or 22 since Staubach, Lilly, Aikman and Emmitt. That has pretty clearly been a conscious choice, but apparently they didn't see 88 the same way.

I would have snatched up a #10 Lamb so fast, #88 just looks weird on him to me.

Oh well, hopefully he plays as good as the rest of those who wore it.

And you’re not trying to follow my argument because it’s not inline with the strawman you’re building.

I can’t help you if you’re so limited in capacity that you can’t separate what I said (“jersey numbers are personal”) from what you’re claiming (“jersey numbers don’t affect play on the field”).

You’re trying to conflate the two in an effort to make a cheap point.

I don’t believe jersey numbers affect play on the field. I think jersey numbers are personal to players.

To make the leap in logic and think that if a player doesn’t get his number it means it will affect his play on the field is the strawman YOU’RE positing, not me.
