The Dallas Cowboys do not retire jerseys. Instead, they wait for a player worthy enough to wear the same number.

Wearing #88 is considered an honor and I think it says a lot about a player when they are given the opportunity to wear the same number as two ROH players and who should both be in the Hall of Fame

DeMarcus Lawrence was given #94 for a reason.

I really believe that Jaylon Smith should be honored to wear the jersey number of, not one, but two Super Bowl MVP's.

Many players will be given iconic numbers during preseason like #74 and #22 but will be issued a different number if they make the team.

I think wearing #88 will make Lamb a better receiver. He is not only competing with his teammates and other WR's around the league, he knows he is being held to a higher standard. He is competing with the Cowboy's historical best.

Before Jerry purchased the teamTex Schramm once remarked that Troy Aikman would look good in a Cowboy #12.

This is a unique Cowboy tradition ans if they arent going to retire Jerseys then this is a great way to honor the past and present wearers of the number.

Actually probably would sell MORE if it wasn't #88 honestly. Some people probably don't want a closet full of #88's.
You are probably, no you are wrong period. Jerry already knows 88 sells better than other WR numbers. Most recently he's got 19 & 13 to compare it to.

are you buying the number or the player who wears it? It is not the number that sales it is the player it is associated with. If you took 88 and gave it to Tavon Austin it is not going to sale any better than the number he has right now.

How do you know he doesn’t want it?

I know what he said initially wanting number 10 but maybe he didn’t know 88 was available. Or maybe after meeting with Jerry, he changed his mind. I don’t know if it was forced on him against his will.

And I love Dez Bryant...but Jerry wants that number to live on. It was disrespectful to Irvin to give it to JAGs once Irvin retired but CeeDee is a first round pick.
I think the times they gave 88 to TEs was because there wasn't another 80s number available. Except on Jackie Harris who was allowed to wear it because had been his previous teams number.

Dez's opportunity to help win a championship was robbed from him in 2014. Don't act as if it was all his fault that HE did not bring a championship.

Whoa! You had to go there. So tell me, jazz feline. Just how was Dez robbed of winning a championship in 2014?

Too me I don't care what number he wears and clearly not enough to make such a big deal over. I'm interested in how he performs and how he can help this team. People getting upset over it just seems stupid, then again some people like being upset even over the most minor of things.

Yes. A few are worried about how Dez may feel about a number assignment on a team he is no longer playing for. Lots of immature ideas floating around here.

I long for the good old days. Way too many snowflakes these days. Hurt or offended over every little thing. Some people really need to grow up.

I also doubt that CeeDee knew much about the number 88 in Dallas when he was asked immediately following his selection by Dallas. He probably had no idea of the legacy of that 88 jersey in Dallas Cowboys lexicon.

Well let's hope he reads this thread so he can rue his decision. Rue to the heavens! Hopefully he doesn't feel bad and then spends all of May on the couch eating Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

That is pretty much it. Those holding out hope that Dez return, now sees the number going to another player killing their dream of his return.

I'm personally buying it for the player, but due to this being yet another retread on #88 will be passing even though I am a huge Lamb fan.

I was, in all honesty excited about buying a #10 Lamb jersey. It was something different and quite honestly Lamb's game reminds me of Hopkins, not Dez, nor Irvin, nor Pearson.

This is an important point, but one many are willing to ignore for the sake of a soap opera story line.

That is your choice. I know one thing, if Lamb comes in and starts lighting up the board people will be buying the jersey. For many it is a means to celebrate the player, getting a jersey with his number and his name.
