I think Dak’s agent has proven to be a tough negotiator. I don’t think this move changes anything in regards to their approach. I think they play this one of two ways:
1. Just not worried about a washed up backup QB on the roster. Glad to have some vet depth behind Dak.
Or
2. You just insulted your franchise QB... pay us what we want or we are out like Kirk Cousins. If you make us play under the tag, we will NEVER sign a long term deal with you because you have poisoned the well.

#1 Maybe, maybe not.
#2 No way.

#3 Neither one. Dak has already poisoned the well himself.
#4 It will bring Dak back to the table sooner, with a more agreeable attitude.

My guess is #4. Stick to your guns Cowboys.

Some one will call the Cowboys abouy Andy. Dallas will get a 1st round pick next year. In a shocker trade. Any takers? Better hope Darnold stays healthy and the Jets dont call you might see a one for two swap?
Adams and a 2nd for Andy Dalton????

That'd be cool, or I could see the Jaguars calling. If Minshew is rubbish, they might be willing to part with a 1st. Maybe the Steelers will call too if Big Ben goes down again

Dalton was ruined when Cincy got ahold of him. Just like Cleveland and DC. The great news is, he wont be asked to start and he can soak up MM's system and gain some new confidence in the process. I feel Andy is much better than he ever showed at Cincy. He had 1 real weapon in AJ Green. Here, if he MUST start for a couple games, he will flourish. I think in Cincy he had no chance and had instant pressure on him. They asked him to cook steak dinner with much lesser ingredients. JUST STUPID. Cincy was cheap. HERE, its all about winning and he wont have all that pressure only on him. He can blend in because he wont feel like he's the end all be all. I think He and Dak can help each other. Competition made He and Romo better for those 2 years. They fed off that. I think the same will happen here. Good solid signing.SMART.

That and the Bengals had their own version of Jason Garrett.

Dak has 0 leverage and at the first sign that he's sucking it up again expect Dalton to come in.
Ask Mr. France is his client intending to sign the Franchise Tag?
LOL.

P.S. Jerry rescind the Tag and watch France and Prescott commit suicide!!! :omg:

Not funny

Lol

You really believe Jerry, Stephen and Mike have signed Dalton to replace Dak?

Has there been any indication that this one year deal for Dalton was anything more than to shore up our backup position and to provide some insurance if Dak went down or holds out?

Here's a report and there’s many others which describe what the Cowboys intentions are. If you have any links which support your opinion I’d like to see them .

I think this move is preparation for in case dak decides to hold out for 1 or more games.
If Dak was or is going to hold out , this gives dallas a "viable" QB to start the season with. Someone with years of experience as a starter.

So that does take a little power away from Dak in that a holdout is not as big a threat now as it would be without dalton.

If Dak plays, they have a competent bkup, who can play if dak gets banged up, or just plays poorly.

So it is a good signing for several reasons.
And if Dak holds out and Dalton was to play good, he could possibly replace Dak. You never know.
I remember when I first came here and during PS I said dak should be allowed to compete with romo for the # `1 position,
and was blasted, and 2 weeks later Dak was the starter, and it turned out he was good enough to compete.

Do you really think Dalton would even be here if Dak had already signed?

I'm awake...are you?

It's perfectly possible Dalton would still be here. Most of us here have long known we needed an upgrade for #2 QB incase of a Dak injury.
For the price that we acquired Dalton, he was a no-brainer. An extra plus is it may add a little leverage to the Cowboy's case vs Dak's hold out.
As to your question, I don't believe Dalton was brought in for the express purpose of replacing Dak, they're not planning on losing Dak.
However, Dalton does serve the purpose of insuring the Cowboys of a decent backup if they should need one for whatever be the reason. That's what backup QBs are for.

A reminder that Dak Prescott is THE BEST PLAYER in the national football league

The very best player in the league

I wish there was some way that Dak could make his way to the Steelers! Dak WINNING with Steelers would be the modern equivalence of Babe Ruth going from the Sox to the Stanx. That would be beautiful! I would love it!

Same response as my last one...we already have Rush, Thorson and DiNucci as backups.

Something that prevented you from winning. Throw in the fact you don’t get turnovers. Know what that leaves you with? A QB needing to take you on a ton of long drives. Must do better regardless who your QB is. Red Zone rushing needs to be better as well . Cowboys offense should perform like the Chargers offense(in the red) did when LT was in SD. Cowboys offense didn’t. Why? Don’t say cause Dak. Everything isn’t Dak’s fault. I actually know why: your OL doesn’t block well enough in the red area

Cause those guys make a coach sleep like a baby!

Apparently, MM liked Rush enough to sign off on his tender of 2.1M.
Drafting DiNucci means he's not going anywhere anytime soon.
I don't know about Thorson, but somebody last year liked him enough to be here maybe it's KM.
