It's a new tradition in these parts, one that keeps me a little less bored than I'd otherwise be on the slowest news day of the week. Hopefully, it keeps you a little less bored, too. Plenty of questions were submitted via Twitter. The best 10 are answered below. And we'll do it again next [more]

From @chriscarra35: “Why would [Andy] Dalton choose the Cowboys over the chance to compete for the starting gig somewhere a la Pats, Jags or to mentor a first-round pick? Is this a power play by Jerry?”

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, five teams pursued Dalton. None provided a direct path to a starting job in 2020. (This implies that the Patriots weren’t one of the five.) Dalton decided to go to the best team with the best chance to compete for a championship in 2020.

The presence of coach Mike McCarthy also was an attraction, since Dalton will have a chance to continue to develop as a quarterback.

Thus, Dalton’s goal is to be the best teammate he can be, to lead by example and experience, to support Dak Prescott, and then to hit the market in 2021, possibly as one of the top available veteran options.

From the Cowboys’ perspective, Dalton provides a veteran presence to further assist his development, and a major upgrade over Cooper Rush. Whether Jerry Jones also hopes to use Dalton’s presence as protection against a holdout by Prescott that could extend into the regular season remains to be seen. That question could become very relevant if Prescott and the Cowboys don’t work out a new deal before the July 15 deadline for signing franchise-tagged players to multi-year contracts.

The ultimate Dallas power play would entail stripping the franchise tender from Dak. That’s highly unlikely, but it wouldn’t be crazy for the Cowboys to at least ponder whether, dollar for dollar, Dalton at up to $7 million represents a better value than Prescott at $31.4 million. Washington did precisely that in 2017, considering whether Kirk Cousins was eight times more valuable than Colt McCoy before eventually tagging Cousins a second time.

He’s a DFW kid, he took a hometown discount to come home and recenter before re-entering the market next year in what presumably should be a more normal FA period. If he ever has to play he’s in a great position to look good and boost his value (preseason will be big). Solid move by him.

It was simply timing. Late in free agency and teams are no longer looking to give out huge long-term deals to a QB. He needs to hit free agency on day one to maximize his earning potential and choose the best option for him. This was most likely a decision of convenience given the circumstances.

Dalton is Texas born and bred, went to TCU, the first 3 letters of his last name is "DAL" just like in Dallas. Plus he said he wanted go get as far away from Cincinnati as possible, and the distance between the 2 cities is close to a Thousand miles..Welcome home Andy.

Coaching change is one of the reasons - increases his chances of starting.

With any coaching change where there is a change in system there is a reasonable chance the incumbent QB will not thrive in the new system. The incumbent also doesnt have the advantage of knowing the system.

At Daltons age, he hasnt come to Dallas to sit on the bench - he needs gametime to increase his value for 2021. With the above, the uncertainty over Daks contract situation and the simple fact that he'd fancy his chances more against Dak than the other #2 QB vacancies (e.g. who'd like to backup Mahomes), Dallas is a good choice for someone in his position.

If you really want to yank someone's chain, tell them that this was the place Dalton was confident he could win the starting job ….. let the fireworks begin.

You don’t have an offense like ours and go into the season wondering who your QB is. That’s why. Dalton sees the great opportunity while Dak can worry about his contract talks.

Probably texting Dak right now,

“Hey broski, take your time, get that Bag (BAG emoji, BAG emoji, BAG emoji)!!

My guy! Tell them to back that brinks truck right to your doorstep!

I’ll hold the fort down while you’re gone. We dem boys (gorilla and goat emoji)”

Easy job. Can sit behind a durable quarterback in Dak...raise his value up like Teddy Bridgewater did and maybe get a nice little contract like Nick Foles seems to always get.

Katy, TX (Houston) actually, but he went to TCU and lives in Jerry's neighborhood currently according to FISH.

You think Jerry and Stephen drove down the street and conducted negotiations in a socially distant manner? lol

That would be 6 more games for Zeke. Only Brady gets away with face to face meetings with his team.

Probably. Jerry probably just cracked the window enough to negotiate with handy Andy, but not enough to let any of the AC out. That's a Texas thing. I picture Buford T. Justice and Little Enos from Smokey and the Bandit in a 77 LeMans wheeling and dealing.

Yup the mini-mansions by Benbrook Lake.
He plans to live in the DFW area the rest of his life.

He did not want to travel during COVID because he has small kids.
