Years is definitely meaningful. But its Dak that wants less years, not Cowboys.

So the Cowboys are just trying to be cute. Dak is actually taking the risk by wanting less years and betting on himself. Most teams would jump at a shorter contract and less commitment. Trolls would definitely like that.
I think you missed the point. The total amount, amount guaranteed, and amount per year should go down as the contract length goes down because the Cowboys lose flexibility. They can’t spread it out as effectively, and they can’t renegotiate to free up money as well. Dak has to compromise on the amounts if he wants a shorter contract.

And MM may be a reason Dalton is here. His first 4 years he had a good team around him and put up similar numbers. I don’t think Dalton is the answer either. But man if Dak sits a year and Dalton takes us to a SB or championship game. Lmao. Then Daks agent maybe out of business..

That's kind of the sad thing, to be honest, to me. If that were to occur, CAA and Frances would just walk away and go find the next guy. Dak, well, he'd probably end up in a place where he is miserable and has little chance to win. I mean, maybe doesn't work out that way but honestly, I feel like any team who would pay Dak 30 mil or more is probably going to be a poor team and probably gives less of a chance to win. If this happens, I see it playing out kinda like a Kerry Collins. Start with a team, never really win, move on to various teams but not really good teams who can win it. That would be a shame but I could see it happening.

For how many years. 4 years. I would give him 4 years 150 million. 70 guaranteed. Sign it and move on.

That wouldn't fly cause, in essence, is just a two-year contract for $35M per yr. Dallas might have to go up to $80M guaranteed. The question is how much better is Dak at 40M per year than Dalton at 7M?

This is exactly it. So many fans think it's really easy to just give somebody a Wentz contract etc. So many uniformed fans. They say the Wentz deal was a 4 year, 128 mil, 108 mil guaranteed, 32 mil AAF, but that's not what it was at all. It was a 4 year extension which allows you to spread things out over more years and that's a big deal in a hard cap era.

Look at wentz and goffs contracts. Very similar. 70 is 3 million more. Lol. With goff he at least went to a SB. He expects more than him...

I'm not disagreeing with you but his agent believes he is a $40M QB. Neither of those QBs should be making more than Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers but they are. The Cowboys front office loves to fall in love with their own players, what happens if Dak sits and Andy plays well? Do they still drop $40M on him? Look what happened to the Ravens for overpaying Flacco and the Rams are heading in the same direction.

I mentioned this in another thread multiple times. Dak and his agent can’t have it both ways. Either take the shorter contract with a bit less per year or longer contract with more per year.

I agree. No way he gets 40 a year. When mahomes signs I am not sure he gets 40. Maybe 37 or just under 40..

Pat Mahomes will be making $45M+ per year, he is the face of the NFL and that carries a premium. Pat sits and KC will be garbage without him.

Now you did hear mahomes say he may take a team friendly deal so he could have talent around him. You heard that right.... Lol. Once he turns it over to his agent watch what happens. Lol. Don’t be surprised of 2 things.

#1 - Don’t be surprised if mahomes hires Daks agent.
#2 - Don’t be surprised if he suddenly gets signed without even hearing about negotiations, it will just show up that he signs a huge contract.

We are the only ones that seem to leak that we have are having trouble with signing players. Lol...

AT this point... i dont want Dak.. but oh well
It’s the media driving most of this. It maybe a normal thing that teams go through but only JJ drags it out through the media. Must have attention...

No doubt his agent will be capitalizing on his upcoming contract, same for Deshaun Watson. Those two along with Lamar Jackson are tier 1 of the next generation of QB.

On a different note, both Mahome and Watson were drafted behind Trubisky... What type of fockery are the Bears running up in Chicago???

It wouldn't matter. Honestly, the Cowboys have not let a lot slip in this negotiation, to this point. But it hasn't really made much difference. If the Media doesn't have anything to report, they just make stuff up and roll with it and they talk about the Cowboys every day because that's ratings. How many times have we heard the media say that the Cowboys were stupid for waiting till the last minute to address the Dak contract issue? We all know that's not what happened but that still gets reported because that makes for a better story.

The Cowboys are beyond it. The media will report stuff, true or made up, regardless because the team is the biggest brand in sports.

I don’t think we need to leak things to see what’s going on. This signing process goes back to last off season.
