the back up is on a one year deal, older, just got cut and has proven he is not capable of winning. he is a game manager at best, now even less at his age. he is not going to lead you to promise land....

The whole goal of a GM or HC is to gather a team good enough that you dont have to win with a Mahomes.

I would just as soon see Dallas sign him to the 4 year deal and see where the team is in the next 3 years. If the Cowboys are not competing for a championship in that span move on. Dak likes to say he is betting on himself which is why he wants the 4 year as opposed to 5. I say lets gamble
After reading this column I've changed my mind on this a little bit. It still pisses me off that Dak can't be ok making 35 frickin' million dollars per for five years, but seeing that the difference is a whopping four mil I have to wonder what the hell the Joneses are thinking. Dak is quibbling over the difference between 47 and 51 mil too though, so it looks like to me both sides are just being stubborn.

I'd be signing a long term deal right now considering we don't know the financial impact Covid will have on upcoming salary caps.

I agree. I have always said I hate the business side of sports. I get it that Dak and his agent are doing what they feel is best for them and the Cowboys are doing what they feel is the best for the organization. I do think this will be resolved before the July 15 deadline and I will say the pressure on Dak will be great to perform and help this team to a championship. I say it will all players who sign big deal, with the money comes much higher expectation in your performance. I don't give a hard time to guys like Heath as some did because I see him playing to the level of his contract. Guys like Dlaw, Zeke, Cooper and soon Dak the expectation have to be great to justify the contract

Ya, I guarantee if this was Aikman or Romo instead of Dak, you would say different.

Sorry i will clear this question up.

Are you implying this is becoming a racial issue? Because I see many black sports commentators starting to take this angle within the last week. Shannon & Steven A.

Dak has absolutely no leverage now. Dalton is willing and ready to takeover hoping to parlay into a new contract next season. Dak better get some
money while he has any demand left. Soon he will be just another backup.

The Cowboys can back off a bit now and take a deep breath and come to their senses on whether to spend that much on Dak. No rush to sign him.-

I agree. Let MM have some input into this now that you have a coach with some knowledge in the building. The offer Dak turned down is too high! He's just not that good, as much as you would like him to be, he is not an elite, top ten QB. He is a little above average at best. I'd would have offered 3 years $75 million and look for a better QB long-term. Now that they have Dalton I'd try to trade Dak, he isn't worth the cap hit. Put the money on the defensive side of the ball and toward keeping the players that are truly standouts at their positions.

The Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott are not far apart on the terms of a new deal.
They apparently haven’t been far for a while now. The market is essentially dictating the price to both parties so the average annual compensation and guaranteed cash are basically spelled out.

So contrary to popular belief, it’s not Dak’s outrageous demands or selfishness or greed that’s holding this up. It’s the length of the deal. Rather than asking for more Dak’s actually asking for less. Try that on for size, Dak haters.

This has been known for some time. As for "the market", when a guy is tagged there is no market. The trade off for exclusive rights is negotiating against yourself.

This is why I'll forever say the Cowboys should've used the transition tag. The market would exist, and the Cowboys would hold the right to match any offers.

I fail to see how Dak is gaining leverage especially since the Cowboys now have a proven option backing him up. It seems like neither party is willing to budge. I see Dak likely playing out this year on the tag and then probably going somewhere else next year. I really hope Jerry doesn't cave like he did with Zeke.
I don't really think we caved to Zeke. They added two years at the end of Zeke's contract to an outrageous amount so that Zeke could say he was the highest paid running back. He'll never see those years. He will either be cut if he is done or will restructure.

He’s gaining leverage because Watson and Mahomes will drive up the AAV market for QBs with their deals. So Dak’s in no rush to sign a long term deal until he gets it for 4 years at his AAV number.

Not if the salary cap drops due to the current crisis/economic downturn. Days of over paying QBs in a rising market are gone.

So he's basically Dak after this coming season?
he is probably gone after this season...unless he learns to accept the fact that at this point in his career he is nothing but a back up and that find a team that gives him the best chance to get a ring...ala Kosar and Peete did with cowboys.

Now before we throw him a parade and add him to the Christmas card list, let’s be clear: this isn’t about sacrifice or altruism. This is good business from Dak Prescott’s camp. A short-term deal may offer less overall dollars, but if Dak continues to perform as he’s been, he stands to make considerably more overall getting to the free agent market again as quickly as possible.

That’s where the two parties are at the impasse.

Dak has on the table, we believe, a $35M APY offer with $106M+ g'teed. With an argument about 4 v 5 years. So, @Boys_Vox 's right – there's no 'disrespect' in that. https://t.co/voVx1G9rFk

Multiple reliable sources have indicated, for quite a while now, the Dallas Cowboys want to sign Dak to a 5-year deal while Dak wants a 4-year deal. Each day that goes by Dak seems to get a little more leverage so it seems wise to explore what that extra year is worth on the market, right?

Although we really don't know any of this (media reports have proven inaccurate time and time again), what you are saying does seem to be at least a reasonable possibility. One point I'm not so sure of though is the claim that Dak gets more leverage every day. That may have been the case for awhile, but the signing of Dalton took away some of that leverage. That's not to say either I, or the Cowboys, wouldn't prefer Dak over Dalton, but there is a much more viable alternative today than there was before Dalton was signed.

My opinion.

Give Dakwhat he wants, but also give your self outs like the Wentz deal.
