Opinion: Dalton choose Dallas to start not to be backup

Maybe....or the disparity between the two is so great it would be silly for Winston to expect to start.
But if I were a coach I would want Winston to have the starting attitude.
So then the disparity between Dak and Dalton is also too great. Glad we could clear that up.

He hails from the state of TX, has a house here already, has an explosive offense for the first time in his career, and the starting QB wants to break the bank vs support cast around him. So his chances are not too bad here , the only other place that may give him a starting spot would be with Philly since Glass Wentz is always expected to get hurt.

Opinion: Dalton chose Dallas because A) its home to him, B) they have a chance to win a ring with this staff and talent, C) MM, ...D) he has probably always wanted to be a Cowboy.....and possibly...E) because there is a chance he sees playing time with the ongoing contract impasse with Dak...
Likely all in that order

Mike Florio at 0:52

Pure clickbait buddy. I guess you did not notice but there is not a lot of sports news going on right now. So what idiots like Mike Florio do is make up stories so other idiots have something to talk about. I bid you good day sir

If a Dalton truely believes what the OP is speculating then that’s exactly what we want in a backup. A guy that thinks he’s got a chance to contribute and start. Not a guy just coming here to eat up a roster spot and coast with a paycheck. Competition brings out the best in players.

5 other teams were interested in Dalton but he choose Dallas because he felt it was his best option to start. This goes against narrative that he will just be good boy and hold clipboard for Dak....na he came to start!
Of course he did.

He has officially entered the sweepstakes for Daks position and his contract slot.

If he gets a chance to start if Dak gets pulled or gets injured..

Dalton will run away with it all.

And Dak knows it.

A single failure could spell his end in Dallas.

Dallas is not going to pay him $40 mil to backup. Either he finds his 2016 magic or he is out of a job in Dallas.

Dak is betting on himself.

No safety net required.

After the draft i'm not sure many teams were starving for Dalton's services. Dalton probably will use this year to work on himself, learn, then come out in free agency working the deals hard to be a starter somewhere else next year. It's unlikely Dak holds out but that too would benefit Dalton.

Dak won't hold out... he is terrified for anyone to play besides him. He already knows with this offense there are many QBs out there that would make him look just the way we all see him.

Dalton said himself the coronavirus has some to do with it and he lives in Dallas. Not to mention it's a 1 year. He knows his role.

I don't think he will. I think Jerry will give in right before the deadline like he normally does.

We should have taken Jalen Hurts in the 2nd round instead of Trevon Diggs.

The more I look at that draft class the worse it is. I'm at a B- now.

I’d assume you are not on the Dak train by that response....
Getting Red rocket- a tested vet who can hold things together in case of injury is team friendly and non-Dak threatening. Many teams who think they have a serious shot often over spend at back up QB.

Drafting Jalen threatens Dak. JH isn’t sitting on the bench very long......or you’re just drafting him to train someone else’s starter.

I’m glad philly got him—that will be a tense situation. I’m not against Hurts, but if you take him in the 2nd—that’s outright confrontational with Dak.

And for the record- I think we can win with Dak, but he needs to tap the brakes a little on these contract demands. He’s a top 10 maybe.....why trying to get paid like top 3?

If you're still not convinced the Joneses aren't sold on Dak, enter Andy Dalton.
Let me rephrase, it's not that they're not sold on Dak. Rather, they don't think he's worth franchise-quarterback money.
They believe he's a starter, but he's not worth breaking the bank over.
Can you imagine the Chiefs treating Patrick Mahomes like this or the Saints treating Drew Brees like this or the Seahawks treating Russell Wilson like this?
The Cowboys are telling Dak what they think about him and are basically saying, "You accept our numbers and get to camp, play under the franchise tag or we're rolling with Andy."

Are you knew or familiar with Risen?
I'm not trying to be snarky. Just wondering.

I’m a cast off from the ranch. I was on there since 2004 until about 2 years ago, I came here. A few of the mods over there just became too much. The whole experience really cut my time/ attention down on any sports message board.

To answer your question- I don’t follow anyone in here. I assume from your question that if I read up on people in here, I’d have known about that guy’s opinion on the subject.

Since it was a blind shot.....did I hit the mark?

Exactly- Two of the three QBs mentioned have rings and are bonafide top tier QBs. Basically any team in the league would trade for them.

Who would trade for Dak? I like Dak, but he has no business earning top QB money. Performance on the field doesn’t warrant it.
