Dak is smart. Everyone is signed but him. Now.... here is your anticipated 2021 QB FA class (source: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/2021/all/quarterback/)

It goes....

  1. Dak Prescott
  2. Philip Rivers (will be going on 40)
  3. Jacoby Brissett
  4. Ryan Fitzpatrick
  5. Tyrod Taylor
  6. AJ McCarron
  7. Colt McCoy...
  8. (plus I suppose Cam Newton)

I'd bet this is where the out of bounds money request is coming from. They have certainty on the CBA. We can't afford 40mn in 2021 easily, but 40mn in 2023 won't be a concern.

And are we going to run with Colt McCoy?

We waited too long.

Now Dak waited too long, because we signed Dalton.

The worst case scenario is we franchise Dak for a second year. But in reality the deal will get done a few days before the July deadline.
If we got to that point, I don't think we're really going to want to be running with a QB feuding with Jones going on their second year on a tag.

There is no out of bounds request for money. Misinformation.

Dalton signing doesn't affect much of anything accept what we saw happen with Rush.

Never know, could have another 2020 where guys like Dalton, Newton and others are "surprise cuts" or traded after a season where the team wants to rebuild.

You're going to see more and more big name QB's on the open market, there's a wealth of average to good QB's in the league. Dak will be one of those guys that gets moved around in the next few years, teams are realizing that you can't pay for average.

You did not have Andy Dalton in there - he is on a 1 year deal....

Dak's number comes from the fact that if he were to get franchised for the next 2 years he would make about 35.4 million per year. Afterwards he would sign a deal that would likely shatter the market once as the cap is going to continue to explode. You will have Mahomes signing his deal, same with Watson, and after that Jackson, I would say its not impossible for him to get 45m in 2 years. That means that in 4 years he would average 40 million per year and that is where the number comes from.

Um, the fact that there are no other big time QBs due for a deal in the next year means the QB market isn't likely to move that much. That is a negative for Dak.

Does the name Aaron Rodgers mean anything to you?

Plus, Dalton would have been a year with us by then and would know the offense and team.

The question would be, would Dalton sign a 3 year deal AVG 20M or less a year to stay?

I would go that route and buy a defense with the left overs.

At this point, only way Dak gets his pay day here is if he wins a SB.

What if the Eagles decide to move on from Wentz as they phase into the Hurts era...oh, wait the are already in that with Wentz being Hurt, all the time. :lmao2:
Then do we go after Wentz? :muttley:

Dak will get signed or more likely play on the tag for a year. Which I am fine with.
So the July 15th deadline is for if he doesn't sign the tag offer, then they can't negotiate a long term deal? He plays on the tag, if he signs it, or he doesn't play at all if he doesn't?

We will also have one year of data on DiNucci, Tua, Herbert, and Love Hurts to see how they do in their rookie years.

I don't watch college much, but isn't this coming draft stacked at QB? IMO that cancels out his leverage with this week FA class.

I’d like to see the 2021 NFL QB draft class and who might come out. I think top 4 maybe as good as the top 4 drafted this year. Might be an easier pill to swallow if Dak decides not to sign. All depends how the year goes (Dalton) so here’s to Dalton being great so we can move on.

But this is coming from a guy that doesn’t think the whole world of Dak.

:)

Trubisky should be on that list.
Mahomes and Watson will likely get new deals in the next year.

I don't think that is true. I doubt the Cowboys have withdrawn any offers to him. He still gets paid here IMO, just maybe not as much as he had previously drawn the line in the sand at.

The original post was talking about next year's offseason Bro..

That's why I said unless Dak wins a SB, we would be better off going with Dalton (assuming he takes 20M or less a year) and going that route because Dak would be too expensive by that point.

The only Leverage Dak had over the Jones boys was Cooper Rush..that Leverage is gone.

This is kinda dumb.

The ONLY reason Dak hadn't signed the tag is because he was using his leverage against the team and was going to hold out unless he got his price..

Why do you guys make it seem like he hasn't signed because he wants a long term deal? He could sign the tag today AND STILL work on a deal before the deadline lol you do know that both sides could still come up with a long term contract even after Dak signs the tag right?

As i said, the only reason Dak didn't sign the tag the first day it was given was brcause he was gonna pretend to hold out if ge didn't get his money.. why you think Dalton is here? Use your heads boys..
