Dee Ford was under the exclusive tag when he was traded for a second round pick. Tag and trade is becoming popular in the NFL these days.

I think some would give up a 1st if he were signed to a longer term deal, but probably not to get him on a one year franchise tag.

sure depending on the deal that may be true. will never know cause jerry is paying him whatever he wants

During this entire negotiation between Dak & Dallas, I assumed worst case scenario is Dallas gets two 1st round draft picks in trade. Now I am not so certain there is a market for Dak considering his asking price. An NFL team would need to part with two valuable 1st round picks and at same time meet Dak contract demands. So in effect another NFL team would need to over-pay with draft assets (two 1st) and cap assets (contract terms). Is there really that many (if any) NFL teams who would do that for player not ranked in Top 8 NFL QBs?
Only in the eyes of arm chair QB’ing, pizza eating, beer guzzling know nothing fans.

show me theres way for them to circumvent the tag rules ?I heard the opposite even on the tag the compensation is 2 firsts and thats an nfl rule..

anyone have a actual new CBA link to the most updated tag rules?

It's not circumventing, it IS the rule. The draft pick compensation is only if a Non-Exclusive Franchise Player signs an offer sheet with a new club and his prior club does not exercise their right of first refusal. If he simply signs his tender and is traded, the compensation is whatever is agreed upon. Please refer to Article 10, Section 2, Subsection a Paragraph i of the CBA.

If Jerry were paying him whatever he wants why is there not a deal in place?

It’s like telling people for the first time that the world is a sphere. Some will just believe it’s flat

Because we are not close to the deadline. The face of the franchise type players typically get done close to a deadline or like in zekes case right before the season. This isn't like extending smith or collins who were not asking for superstar money, those deals went through because they were reasonable. jerry will cave, history shows us that but he will wait till the last minute to do so like he typically does with the bigger contracts.

Oh, is he a big Dak proponent?

No, he just crapped on a thread immediately that I put up yesterday basically asking If anyone would take a deal of us getting Cam Newton for 2 years $40 million total and we trade Dak and get 2, 1st rounders like his tag designation would command. Apparently he required a Valium thinking about such a proposition.

In all actuality I am good with keeping Dak and the moral of the locker room good but this guy can't be expecting $40,000,000 a year and only a 4 year deal. He also can't be expecting more guaranteed than Russell Wilson upfront. He has not won a Superbowl and is not a better QB.

Why would you assume that? Dallas used the exclusive tag so the two first round picks thing doesn't apply. He's currently not under contract so he's not theirs to trade.

Now if the Cowboys sign him and try to trade him, how often have you seen that happen for two first round picks? Not to mention the Cowboys would take a cap hit in that scenario.

He's not getting traded. He either signs the tag, sits out, reaches a contract agreement with the Cowboys, or Dallas rescinds the tag making him a free agent.

Right now Prescott CAN NOT be traded. Even when he signs his tag offer, the chances of Jerry trading Prescott now is less than zero. The Cowboys didn't sign Dalton as a replacement for Prescott, only as a 1 year backup insurance policy..

Dak is worth 3 1st round picks. Especially if someone looses their starter. Heck the Red Rifle is probably worth a 1st if a playoff team looses their QB

Cowboys won't move an inch until training camp. If Dalton looks like he can get the job done the team won't make an in-season offer.
