Is this a serious question? The guy has been a top 5-10 QB...

This is kind of part of the issue right? Not everybody sees Dak as a top 10 QB. I'd say very few see him as top 5. Saying things like that are part of what fuels this entire thing.

Just saying.....

I'll never understand why this fanbase is like the twilight zone when it comes to QB's.

Dak suddenly isn't a starting QB...and Dalton suddenly is a great QB now that he's here, even though he took a backup job.

This BS is like when people thought Orton and Kitna were better QB's than Romo.

So the Dallas Cowboys have the worst starting QB in the league?

Here's how I would judge Dak.

Contracts and draft pick aside, if the QB competiton was completely fair:

Dak would start in the following cities IMO. (IE he would immediately be installed as starter as the best QB on roster, or until 1st RD pick was groomed and installed.

DAL
CHI
CAR
LV
TENN
NE
LAC
DEN
CIN
CLE
WAS
MIA

He would have more than reasonable opportunity to start if established starter faltered in: (ie: he is the equal to the starting QB's on these teams). 1st day starter is not happening in:

LAR
PHI
SF
NYJ
BUF
DET
IND
ARI
ATL
MINN
NYG
JAX

That leaves:

KC
GB
TB
NO
SEA
BAL
PIT
HOU

So, I'd ask Dak Prescott if he would take the average salary of the 8 QB's he would not be likely to win the starting job over.

If he wants back in the proverbial dating pool, so be it after this season.

But he needs awareness to where he falls in the pecking order of the NFL and how his highest value is likely right where he sits today.

Maybe but then claiming he is nothing more than a backup who would not be starting for any other team in the NFL I think fuels these debates. I don't think Dak is the best QB in the NFL right now nor do I think he close to being the worst QB in the NFL. Currently he is the best FA QB in the NFL who is going through a contract negotiation and frankly the only contention has been with the fans, not the 2 parties actually going through the process of getting the contract done.

Somewhat agree but in some of those cases teams have just used high picks to draft a QB which is why I did not add Miami or Cinn. Also teams like NY or Arz who will now enter their 2nd season with young QB that they drafted high.

Can't comment on that, I never expressed that opinion.

I'm only commenting on what fuels these debates to the extent we see. Really not directed at anything you have said in terms of where Dak ranks.

Also it needs to be defined if it's top 5 QB for next next season or a top 5 QB going forward.

Eliminating the aging talents Dak is without question in/closer to top 5 than he is to average or worse than every starter like this stupid thread is claiming.

Also.. if he plays.. this season will be the ULTIMATE test for Dak.
Do we agree on this at least or not?

Well, I would not say that Dak has no chance of being a starter elsewhere but, it kind of depends on how you context it. From strictly the stand point of talent and ability, I believe Dak could be a starter elsewhere. But if you view this holistically, it's certainly an interesting question and one that I do not believe you can just say, out of hand, that he would be a starting QB in the League.

His representation clearly wants the top contract in the entire league. Would other teams want to spend that much money for him? To even get him, a team would likely have to invest considerable draft capitol. Would teams be interested in giving up what it might take to get him? He has his strengths but he also has his weaknesses. Does his value outweigh his limitations, in terms of other teams situations? These are all questions we don't know the answer to so to me, it's certainly not a guarantee that he would be.

by the Talent around him.
I did not say he SUCKED or that he was garbage. I SAID he is average.
And his play elevates by the good team around him.

Ahh yes he is average because he had good players around him! That explains everything.
So based on your statement
  • Dan Marino was average because he had Clayton and Duper.
  • Montana was MEGA average because he had Clark, Rice, Craig, Solomon, Taylor, etc
  • Favre? Average! Sharpe, Jennings, Driver, Brooks, Chmura, Franks. Way too many good players.
  • Brady? Overrated! Needed Gronk, Randy Moss, Welker, Edelman, Branch, Troy Brown and some great Ds
  • Elway? Useless without Vance Johnson, Mark Jackson, Nattiel, Ed Mccaffrey, Rod Smith, Sharpe and Terrell Davis.
  • Peyton Manning? Practically handed superbowls because of Wayne, Harrison, Clark, Edgerrin, Stokley, Demaryius Thomas, Decker. Geesh didn't realize how much Peyton really sucked!
  • Aikman? Wow based on your logic that a qb cant be good if he has good players around him, Troy has to be considered sub average. Best OL in history, best RB in history, Novacek, Irvin, Johnston, Larry Allen, Stepnoski, Eric Wilkiams, etc etc.

This is getting boring so I'm stopping here.

Tis is not about a record or about stats.. it is about CAPACITY.
Lets face it.. Tim Tebow, Mark Sanchez were "there" for a while until ultimately the league gave up ton them. I sorta see the same will happen with Dak

No idea why you aren’t a NFL scout or General Manager already.
